NBC's Axe: A Death Knell for Intelligent Relevant Programming

I hope that most readers enjoyed watching Harry's Law as much as I have during the past two seasons. It has been one of the best and most interesting programs on television for the past several years. Easlly the best law related series.

Too bad the network execs at NBC no longer support intelligent, thought provoking programming which delves into the many "real life" social, economic, and political issues of our times!

The scripts and dialogue were consistently excellent and reflected the important realities of what is topically relevant in this country. The writers have probed and dissected a broad spectrum of important issues; the same issues that have been noteworthy in current events and newspapers.

Harry's Law is true reality programming. Too bad NBC can't see that! No wonder NBC's standing as a former major network keeps declining. With a few notable exceptions their weekly nighttime programming seems to be as dimwitted as their programming directors.

Same here! I just watched the last 5 episodes straight and loved every one of them! David E Kelly still got it and just really knows how to mix social commentary, comedy, good story telling and strong characters rolled into one! Man, why didnt more people watch this show????

The man can write his ass off and my god Kathy Bates shined in this role! Hell they all did! It sucks because NBC actually had a lot of decent to great dramas this year: Harry's Law, Prime Suspect, Awake and The Firm...and now all gone! WOW! And Harry Law was up there with good solid story telling!

It sucks!

Actually this show was doing very well in the ratings, it was one NBC's strongest shows. It was because this show appealed to older views was the reason why it got cancelled.

I disagree with that reason. Networks will simply insert advertising for the age group it is trying to target. If enough over thirty to 49 year old watch they will change what the try and sell for that age group. For example everyone buys cars or lawn equipment, so that is what networks will insert with those customers in mind. A better Example is NCIS or Blue Bloods, both have a greater amount of older viewers and they get the recognition they deserve even though they are not all that great in the younger group. I think this show just did not have enough viewers to continue. Despite the better showings in the older group.

I completely disagree with you, Lamont. NBC has CONSISTENTLY shown for the past fifty-some years that they haven't got a clue what to do with good programming other than to cancel it. It doesn't matter who the head of the network is, they all seem to do the same thing. Stick their heads up their asses, and put out consistantly bad programming that they repeatedly shove down people's throats, and any good shows that come along, they cancel as quickly as possible with extremely rare exceptions. The only two shows I can think of that have been worth watching and have been actually kept on the air, was Las Vegas (though, maybe I'm wrong and that was CBS), and currently, Grimm. That's it. As others mentioned, they cancelled Harry's Law after two seasons, and Awake (one of the BEST and most INTRUIGING shows I've ever seen, although it certainly didn't hurt that it had one of the UK's SEXIEST/HOTTEST actors in it), which was cancelled before it even finished its first season.
