At least some people will now be aware that energy companies are getting massive direct subsidies, allowances, and tax breaks to build these towers at little to no cost to them.

While they're doing that, they're lobbying your legislature to pass laws forcing distributors to buy a minimum allotment of 'green' energy and you're paying through the nose for it. So, you're paying twice, on the front-end, and on the back-end. Then when all is said and done, not a single conventional power plant can be shut down, so who's really benefiting here?
