Cartoonishly evil villains & a little sappy emotionalism

John Woo made some great Hong Kong action flicks in the 80s, notably with Chow Yun Fat, and this has some elements from those that don't age well in the 2020s USA. First, the gangsters are very one dimensional and feel like a non-American's idea of American street gangs that they learned from movies. And, although the grieving father lusting for vengeance is of course an emotional story - there are scenes where his reminiscence comes off as corny.

Having said all that, this is a pretty satisfying - and not unpredictable - grief and revenge tale, with some good Woo action.
