Sterling was good, lead girl was terrible

The lead girl ruined the movie, pretty much. Sterling Knight did a good job, but she was just annoying and not a very good actress. Why didn't they get one of the Disney regulars for this role?

reply

It wouldn't have mattered much who they got. The character was bratty throughout the majority of the movie. I'm not really sure why they wrote her like that. She didn't even have much of a reason for being bratty either.

reply

Yeah, it didn't help that the character she was playing was bratty and annoying.

reply

I agree. There's one thing to make the character a brat, but we're talking about acting here. The girl just wasn't a very good actress. Not even for Disney Channel standards.

She's young and undeveloped.

They didn't really give her a good role to work with. I agree that her skills seemed limited... but after looking at it... I realized that I just hated not only her character... but her entire family. The sister, the mom, the dad, the grandma...

I'll give her the benefit of the doubt and I'd like to see her in another role... one that actually deserves the time of day though. I don't want to judge her based on an atrocious movie such as this one.

i totally agree. sterling has never really impressed me with his acting. i mean, he plays this shallow celebrity with a deeper personality in sonny with a chance and starstruck. i want to see him in 17 again and doing different roles. but his acting in starstruck was pretty good.

danielle had the same expression on her face throughout the whole movie. my cousins and i were making fun of her because she just seemed annoyed for no good reason. but they were an ok couple.

I agree the role wasn't much. But I've seen other Disney actresses do more with less, or just as much of a character. It's not a big deal though.

I actually don't think her family was that bad. Well the sister was annoying, but that's how she was supposed to be. I thought the Grandma was fine. The parents certainly were forgettable.

I agree that sterling was prety good

i think it had something to do with dialogue too. sometimes the writers threw in really great dialogue (witty stuff that almost seemed to be adlibbed), but most of the time the way the wrote the characters was...well, out of character.

both of the leads were completely bipolar. one second knight's character was chill and laid back, and then the next second he was complete over-the-top textbook hysterical celebrity. the same with jessica. one second she was seemingly likable and the next second she was spouting bad, expected high-strung dialogue left and right as if she was a "better" person when in all actuality she was a complete hypocrite.

i think something that would've made the movie slightly stronger (other than a rewrite..) would be to have jessica's character realize that chris wasn't the only person in the wrong. while jessica's sister spent her life idolizing chris without knowing him, jessica spend her life denoting chris without knowing him and to be honest, she was being extremely rude before and after he took her to the hospital.

but hey, it's only disney...so...whatever.

The music wasn't so bad

They should have toned down Sterling's pink lipstick and blue contacts.

reply

I agree. I thought Sterling was actually great in this film. But the WAY that the main actress acted annoyed me sooooo much! I mean yes it might be the writers fault but I saw some lines in the film that could have been delivered in a way that didn't make her so stubborn and obnoxious.

Honestly I could have rewrote the script and made it soooooo much better than anything Disney did.

reply

His eyes actually look like that, he wasn't wearing contacts...

reply

agreed. I love Sterling, but the lead girl should be banned from acting from henceforth and forever.

reply

You love Sterling because you love Disney. I saw this with my kids and thought the exact opposite. Sterling was average (Disney style acting) but because she was previously in more serious and dramatic stuff, she came across better and iwould wager a bet that in ten years she will be doing better stuff than the cute kid of the moment (Sterling Knight)

reply

The only reason I gave this movie a chance was because of Sterling and Brandon.

TBH the main girl really annoyed me. She probably wouldn't have, if they had explained her hatred towards Chris, it seemed very unjustified, even when he took her to the hospital. A polite thank you would have been nice to hear (and maybe an apology from Chris for hitting her (I can't remember if there was one). But she just seemed to be btching and moaning the majority of the time, and those mood swings she had... wow.

But Sterling, he did a good job. I'd like to see him break away from Disney a bit more and do some more dramatic acting, like he did in The Closer. ATM he's the best actor on Disney, and he's such a lovely young man (from watching interviews and things. That interview he did with Bonnie, CRACK UP!).

Brandon, he was really good as well, although I'd like to see him do a different role. Stubby and Nico are very similar in characters, I want to see him expand himself a bit.

I think Danielle might need to take a few more acting classes, she was a bit too young and new for this role. Also, her character wasn't really written very well, so maybe she'd do better with a different role, I don't know.

But hey, that's just my two cents.

reply

Give her a chance people! She's just starting out and she will gain more experience as other acting opportunities come along. Just wait a while and see that at some point she will become a better actress.

reply

There was a reason for her to be bratty towards Chris. Her sister talked non stop about him so she was already sick of him before meeting him. Also, when she first met him he automatically assumed she was a huge fan of his - so she thought he was arrogant.

I thought the lead girl was good at times, but lacked at others. I think she will get better as she continues her acting though

Yeah agree, she was so annoying, if I were Sterling, I definitely couldn't stand her. The good thing is she's pretty that's all.
