Heavy Spaleb foreshadowing in Season 3 episode 8

Does anyone else remember this? When Caleb was helping Spencer crack the password, there was definitely chemistry and some flirtation between them. It could have just been conversation, but the way that their expressions and interaction was filmed and purposely emphasized, it hinted that something was going to happen between them.

Because it was all the way back in Season 3, I wonder if the writers wanted something to happen between them at that time but then scrapped the idea, or if they really did predict it that far ahead.
