Unrealistic idea for making an electric car sound like a real car

You would have to add much weight to the car for all the sound system material and traditional speakers wouldnt carry the sound like a real engine/exhaust system...and even if it did work, the weight added to the car and teh electricity used by this massive souind system wouild negate all the positive effects of using an electric car..
you just have to have an internal combustion engine and real exhaust to make that sound.
but i know, its just amovie

Umm..... yea, the main goal in this movie made no sense to me at all. Maybe because I'm not a car guy but whaevs. Louder cars? Fascinating... Oh and the real ending.... what was that? He has no one to go with (lolfeis)

well that part is easily explained. The ending is that no matter what happens, Nick will always have Ronnie.

Not to mention how stupid it is to make an artificial sound and feeling like that for no practical reason. NOBODY would by a car like that for the sex appeal. It would be like posing with candy cigarettes to look cool.

There was a report on BBC World today about Germany wanting to get 2 million electric cars on its roads within the next decade (or something like that). In the piece it said that car makers are actually looking at ways to make their engines sounds like traditional engines. Safety is one important reason why car makers are concerned about 'silent' cars driving up and down the road. This and idea that the Dodge brand is a 'traditional' brand associated with sportif sounding engines makes this aspect of The Dilemma realistic enough.

Don't be so sure. Remember the fake convertible tops that were added to sedans in the '80s/early '90s? As the owner of several real convertibles over the years, I thought, "What a stupid $#^*ing idea", but someone bought them.

I agree it is stupid, however it does not stop people doing it .. you can buy electric turbo sound devices to hook up to your accelerator to make your non turbo engine sound like it has a turbo .. stuuupid!! :D

Isn't part of the whole idea of the movie that making an electric car sound like a real car would be a difficult thing to do? That's why Kevin James' character had to spend so much time away from his wife and caused all that tension between them. He's supposed to be an engineering genius who had to work super hard to get it working on time. If it were something easy to do then the movie would make even less sense.
