Tone Was All Wrong

It's difficult to find a movie funny when you have such an unpleasant character like Winona Ryder's (the scene where she demonstrates how easily she can act by crying in the cafe basically made her look like a bonafied, scary psychopath).

You can't really laugh when you have such an unlikeable character with genuine psychotic tendencies combined with a lover who's willing to torment the protagonist by showing up at his intervention.

I get that they try to dilute her unpleasantness by having the husband go to massage parlours too but it really doesn't work as we don't see much of that and more importantly we don't see him gloat or maniacally defend it (the way she does).

The comedy is completely lost behind the subject matter. And the subject matter is dealt with so badly resulting in a totally inappropriate tone.

I like Vaughn as a leading manbut this kind of material is far too muddled.

Make a comedy or make a drama.
