We need more shows like this

Once upon a time, in the late nineties and early two thousands, cop shows were plentiful and they were great. The Wire, The Shield, NYPD Blue, Homicide: Life on the Streets and The Sopranos filled our screens with gritty realism and brilliant screenwriting and acting that made real cops and drug dealers look fake. But what happened? Now the good cop shows we have: Detroit 1-8-7, The Chicago Code, The Killing, are getting cancelled left and right. The Killing is the only one standing but the only reason I included it is because it's the only other show
that remotely compares to the other two in terms of quality. The Academy doesn't even know a good show when they see it: not nominating Detroit or The Code for an Emmy. It's really sad that the shows were cancelled. I blame laziness. No one really wants to develop a show anymore. Just look at Body of Proof. It is a prime example of how networks assume that just because an a-list actress is in something that it will be well-received critically. The majority of actors in Detroit 1-8-7 were novices, but it didn't show. The cast was strong and, at some points, you'd think that Aisha Hinds or Jon Michael Hill had received all the accolades when really Mr. Imperioli did. I'm just saying all this to say that we must fight to save this show and The Chicago Code because they exemplify what an American drama can be if the writers and actors are applied and have a cause or a guiding element. The procedurals we have today like Law and Order and NCIS are stale and uninviting of new viewers. They constantly repackage the same story with different characters every week and it's time for a new cop show to step in.
