correct me if I am wrong; is this a 'crime of the week' show?

no plot at all?

no suspense?

just crime after crime being solved by the super detective who has issues and particular habits like millions others we have seen???

Well yea it is pretty much a crime (or crimes rather in this show) type of thing. You get two distinctively different crimes solved by pretty distinctively different cops. Plus there is a good backstory of Imperioli's character that develops which does create suspense and what not. Also I would't call his character a super cop or whatever, and honestly I would say his character is one of the better and more interesting ones in this genre.

That being said, if you absolutely dislike cops shows in general like it sounds in your post, Detroit 187 probably won't change your opinion.

Personally I think this is (or was) a great show and it put a few good spins on the genre.Of course I'm usually a fan of this genre, so you gotta take that into account. Also my girlfriend who absolutely hates the cop genre actually found this show acceptable and "not too terrible" so i guess there is that..

Overall if you give this show a chance, I do think you will like it. But like most cop shows the main point is moving from case to case and the show depends on your interest in each individual case as well as the personalities of the 5 or 6 cops.

I dont know where you got the idea that I dont like cop shows, I love them!

My all time favorite is The Shield, IMO, the best show ever. Do I need to say more?

I also love Dexter, apart from last season, which was terrible.

I could also mention 24 (initial 3 seasons), Breaking Bad (ok, not totally a cop show, but close), and Sons of Anarchy.

Another show I really love is Damages, probably the best writing I ever saw.

As you can see, all these shows have one thing in common; an ongoing storyline, at the end of each episode we are asking for more, willing to know what will happen next.

That is not the case with D187, episode is over and that is it.

I have seen 7 episodes so far, and will probably quit, I have a long list of shows to watch.

And just remembered another great show, Justified.

Tks for your reply, cheers!

My bad, from your post for some reason I got that vibe.

Alot of the shows you mention though, to me arent really "cop shows". I generally consider those "crime to crime" shows to be of the cop genre, and shows like 24 and Sons of Anarchy to be more thriller/ dramas.

They are all really great and the ones I have seen of your list are better than this show, but outside of The Shield (which definitely blows D187 absolutely out of the water no matter how much I like this show)I consider alot of those shows to be apart of different genres. This show is more in the L&O:SVU type genre and its most comparable to NYPD Blue or Homicide.

The reason I even turned on this show was because The Sopranos is my favorite show and I wanted to see how Michael Imperioli would do. Personally I think his character and performance is the best reason to continue watching the show, especially as it went on.

This show does get better and better and the final three episodes are amazing in my opinion and make the entire show worth it.

This is definitely not anywhere in the league of The Shield or The Wire, but I think its pretty cool and I would encourage you to finish it.

I guess I can go directly to them, right?

I quit watching after ep 06.

I watched the opening episode for about 2 minutes; I just got done watching portions of episode 13 because I liked the teaser. My question: how in the world did you last through 7 episodes? This was a real dog. I hate the filming style (I first remember the style used in another AWFUL show called UC: Undercover); for some reason, it's become fashionable (a bunch of artsy-fartsy nonsense). Currently, Breaking Bad is my favorite.
