How did Les know how to make the root beer? It is never explained.......

Since Martha had put the recipe in her apron pocket. Unless in that scene where he forces her to take the tips out of that jar, she gave him the recipe then but it was cut out.

This is one of the more better Christmas movies they show on the Hallmark channel. Few years from now they may not at all, it will be too old. Or it will be on only at 4 am.

UPDATE Dec. 2014 - I watched this on Amazon Prime recently since I was right in my prediction, it is not on The Hallmark Channel at all this year, and saw some scenes I had never seen before, but there is nothing to show how he knew how to make that recipe.

I also love this movie and look forward to watching it every year. This year I notice that it's being shown on the Hallmark Movies & Mysteries Channel instead of the regular Hallmark Channel. Just mentioning this so people can find it.

This post is 7 8 years old, I know but I just watched the movie for the first time.

I agree that the editing for this could have been better and they could have tied it in better with the diner's owner too. Depending on when this story took place, Les could have looked up a recipe online. He would have also been friends with Sam and may have known his recipe by heart. Or he could have just asked Sam's wife off screen. I don't recall, but I don't think it's ever mentioned that this was some super secret recipe that ONLY Sam could make, it's just that his wife didn't want to do it because it was too close to her.

That being said, this is where I am surprised that this wasn't tied in better with Sam's wife. Her seeing the bottles (that were obviously taken from her closet) and realizing Sam's legacy shouldn't be buried...that as long as the spirit of the root beer was alive than HE was as well. I am actually surprised they just had her shut the diner down and then the next scene it's bought by the waitress. It just didn't give me the closure I think the film needed.

Now that I typed all that, I'm just gonna say TL;DR the root beer story line was lazily done, lol
