I think it's open to interpretation whose sperm she actually used... She is seen with Victor, (which is possibly a fantasy sequence being that it cuts back to Louise in the bathtub right afterwards) but she is also seen putting her hair up as if she was about to blow Spencer. So it is entirely possible she used Spencer's sperm. It is also possible that the cops DID analyze it and that's why they were absolutely sure it was him when Victor called them. Otherwise, why wouldn't Roland have questioned Victor after he killed Spencer?
**Warning-The post below is abounds with SPOILERS**Ding! Ding! Ding! The above quoted post is the answer regarding the sperm/DNA/analysis question, IMO..
I definitely saw it as a way of keeping the audience in the dark til the very final scene of the movie as to "who" exactly it was that Louise chose to "side with" vs. "bury as the serial killer"..
IMHO, I took the movies plotline to be fairly straightforward as to Louise having slept with NOT ONLY Victor, but ALSO Spencer as well..the obvious scene in Spence's apt where Louise tells him that the question "why?" is boring, and that instead Spencer should be asking her, "what's next?" (
Ie.my interpretation was that obviously this scene led to her and Spencer hooking up).
Therefor, by the time Louise actually carries out her plotted plan of killing/raping Valerie with "someone's" semen we were not to know(at that point in time) exactly whose semen Louise decided to use.
I actually believe that this particular plot point was likely the most important, critical piece of the movie, and its this plot point that the entire final, climax scene is hinged upon as we watch it unfold.. The final act of the film in which we see Louise simultaneously plotting the other neighbor's demise, with none other than the "other neighbor"..well, we watch it, anticipating, as to exactly which one of the two "good neighbors" Louise is going to "side with"..
She "played" them both, perfectly..in fact Louise basically "played" every character, perfectly throughout the film in her quietly observing, studying, gleaning, plotting, AND planning as to how she would choose to use each of them for her own, personal gain(neighbors, cops, media, etc). And oh, how very close it came to Spencer having the opportunity to spill Louise's true nature to poor Victor(ie.that its none other than Louise who brutally slaughtered and then raped their bitchy, cat-hating neighbor, Valerie!). But as Victor is kicking Spencer off the fire escape to his death he tells Spence he knows everything he NEEDS to know about Louise(which, to me, seemed to insinuate that Victor already understood that Louise may indeed have been the one to kill Val, but, for him, this did not matter).
Though, again, this is all my own personal opinion and interpretation of the quirky way the movie played itself out with us, as the audience, being privy to the vast majority of the inner workings of all characters and their motives..yet, keeping us in the dark until the final, climax of the movie as to which "good neighbor" Louise chose to side with vs. bury(both figuratively and literally).
I thoroughly enjoyed this lil, indie flick, and do hate that some people absolutely insist on nitpicking, TO DEATH, any/every single movie they see(and sadly some don't even watch a film in its entirety before logging onto imdb and proceeding to rip&tear to shreds films of which they're not even qualified to be critiquing, good or bad, due to their not even watching the entire film they're giving their hate filled rant about).
<END OF MY RANT, NOW! >
Just my little, ol' opinion about this lil' indie thriller that I actually quite enjoyed!!
