Victor's Jewish Heritage

So the movie makes a point about Victor being Jewish. Ok. Fine. But then what is with his big hoopla over Christmas and him throwing a Christmas party at his apartment? I guess he's not very religious. Or perhaps he just wants to partake in the Christmas cheer. Fair enough. But I found it odd they would make a point about his Jewish heritage and then have him so gaga about Christmas. Hmm.
