Really anal nitpick.

The Radio report that plays over the footage of the corpse on the tombstone in the intro of the original movie names the sheriff of the area as Sheriff Jesus Maldonado.

Not Hooper.

Not really a nitpick. I call that a cheap way to make a reference to the film's executive producer, and a mistake, in continuity with the previous film. It is a bit anachronistic, given that the beginning of this movie SHOULD be in 1973. Not saying there weren't any African American police officers in Texas during the 1970s, which there probably were, but I don't think a whole lot of them were Sheriff at that point in history. I'm curious as to what happened over the course of 24 hours for that particular county to swear an African American police officer in as Sheriff, and for the Sawyer family to hear all about it while they were torturing the hell out of Sally the night before.

I didn't become legal to vote until a few years ago, and I didn't partake in 2016's election, so forgive me for asking this, but how do most elections for Sheriffs work? From what I heard, don't they include the election for Sheriffs on ballots on Election Day, along with Senator and County Officials? Or is it different in every state? If its the former, then Hooper wasn't elected to be Sheriff. Maybe the incident with the graveyard forced the county officials to kick Maldonado out and replace him with Hooper on the spot. It was probably a big event that Drayton probably heard it on the radio at the Gas Station, RIGHT before Sally busted in, being chased by Leatherface in the first one.
