Unappreciated Classic

Okay, say what you will about my film ratings on my profile, because given IMDB maturity ratings, it will come up. Unfortunately, the ratings I gave to certain films were the first impression I had at the age I viewed the film, IE: Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. With that said, let me get to this film. I will say this straight off, the acting IS horrible but look back upon past slasher films that we consider classics today, I would say the acting in this film is better than most of those, but that isn't saying anything. The reason I feel this way about this film, more than the guilty pleasure aspect, is the attention to detail. From the first scene, to when the director takes his time to let the viewer take in the scenery. I do agree, the jump scares that are there, are perhaps there because the viewers of this day and age are expecting them, however a few of the jump scares I found to be unexpected. The 3D money shots are there but remember the 3D films of old days. I felt this film was throwing back to those types of films. With this one, looking back on it after a few viewings, I felt the lingering shots, the throw backs, the subtle nature, yes I said it, subtle, are what made it stand out to me. Compared to the *beep* remakes and sequels, this one is very subtle, especially compared to most horror films. There isn't lingering on gore, there isn't an over the top nature to the violence. It's subtle considering the day and age we live in. I feel this film got flack because it was different, making Leatherface an anti-hero was awesome. I mean, come on. Do something different, and you get hated. To me, they tried something daring while sticking to classic slasher film roots. That is why I loved this film.

Not sure about classic, but WAY better than the hate it gets.

A rather decent film as a whole, and I give it credit for trying new things, but it's too much of a sloppy, poorly written mess of a film to be considered anything close to a classic. Worthy of the hate it gets, even though I admit it could have been much better. There could have even been a great sequel or two with the right people behind it.

I honestly loved this film! Yes, it's dull in some scenes but I liked it!

I can see this only if you were mid teens when first seeing it, then it'd be 'classic' to you. For those of us who grew up watching the original, sequels and stuff like ANEOS, Friday 13th etc, not really.
