Subtitles available anywhere or transcripts perhaps?

This is a beautiful film ... and the dialogue is important to the pathos of the story. I can understand much of it even with the accents, but not all.

Does the Region 2 disc have subtitles? Or, is the transcript available anywhere?

Any help is appreciated.

I'm here to answer my own question ... this may be helpful to others as well.

The Region 2 DVD format of "Parked" is subtitled in English, German, and French.

You will need an all-region dvd player or one specifically coded for Region 2. If you intend to see other Colin Morgan films it would be worth the investment. Also, other countries have some fine films available which are on other dvd formats. The US and Canada are usually only Region 1.

So I know that your original post is quite old but I too was wondering about transcripts of this movie. I know that I missed a few things and the whole time I thought his name was Kyle. I already have the region 1 dvd and it doesn't have subtitles but I'm not going to by the region 2 because then I have to buy a region 2 dvd player. Any info would be great.

Hello Barnabee. First, his name is Cathal. The pronunciation kinda swallows the th sound soo "Ca-hal"... (which can sound kinda like Kyle)

I was so determined to follow Colin's career that I purchased an all-region dvd player ($40 from Amazon, which will play discs from anywhere.) I gave my US, Region 1 player to a friend and have never regretted it for one moment. Parked is one of those special films. Like you, dialogue is important to me, and I always use subtitles even on American films. I just purchased the series "Quirke" from Amazon.uk and never worried about which Region it was for. Colin is, again, really worth watching and understanding in his role. Which, by the way is portrayed in his Northern Irish brogue ... great to listen to, but can be rather difficult to follow for us. (I'm assuming you are part of the American audience.)

Hope this helps - I did not find any transcripts. You might try watching the disc on your PC. You can choose subtitles on your computer.

Island, another wonderful portrayal by Colin, does not have subtitles at all. The accents can be mostly understood after a couple of viewings. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have success. Best, Suntse

It seems as if fans of Colin are a rare breed. But once we become fans of him, we become fans for life (and the demographic of his fans is rather broad and he is known in over 180 countries because of Merlin). A lot of people compare him to Benedict Cumberbatch but it seems as though Colin is going a different route, not going for roles that would make him famous but rather for roles that are challenging and are worth his time. I imagine that he would one day be like Daniel Day Lewis - others have already touted him as the actor to one day fill in his shoes.

Your post is completely along my lines of thinking. Speaking of broad demographic ... I am 72 years old from the western US ... and can think of no finer actor of either his or my generation. Have been an enchanted fan since the first episode of Merlin ... and now own everything available on dvd in his repertoire, with the new ones on order. I purchased an all-region player so as to never miss an opportunity to see his talent whenever possible. It is close to impossible to describe this young man's amazing ability to portray deep emotion and submersion into character ... yes, Daniel Day Lewis definitely comes to mind. Ah, the Irish!

As well, it is good to read that you see his direction not being fame, but rather challenge and worth. That character trait is one that I see also ... and admire tremendously. He does not pursue lead roles, is more likely to find small character roles or become part of an ensemble. It was the great variety available to him in Merlin that has allowed us to see the many colors of his cloak, something to be very grateful for. Enjoyed your post and am so glad it came my way ... kind of made my morning. Thank you.

He's amazing, isn't he? And it's nice to finally be able to find another person to discuss him in an intellectual manner. (Maybe we should move this discussion to the Colin Morgan board since that place is so quiet.)

What are the roles that you want him to do? I truly wish he would be cast in a film called "The Rising" about the 1916 Easter Rising in Ireland. It's a hugely political film and he is being considered as the main lead who is apparently the leader of the rebellion. The cast will be announced in July so I'm really looking forward to it.

I live in the UK but travel extensively so I have been fortunate to see his stage plays "The Tempest" and "Mojo". He was great in both. And I was there with everyone else, bawling on Christmas Eve when BBC decided to torture all of us with Season 5 Episode 13 of Merlin. (The BBC folks are a cruel bunch.)

And of course, I've seen Parked. That last scene that he did with the fireworks. It stayed with me for days and it's in my memories still, as one of those things that are just unforgettable. Incredible talent.

Yes, let's do this! We can move it to the Colin Morgan board ... or we can correspond by email. I have no objection to giving you my email address ... but you may prefer the privacy of the board. I am so glad you made this suggestion as I was about to do the same. I made a good friend of a woman, originally from Russia, now living in New York, over her comment to my review of Parked on Amazon. We exchanged email addresses and corresponded for many months about both Merlin and Parked. We are still in touch from time to time. So, here it is if you care to use it: [email protected]

Have you seen his performance in Island? Another favorite of mine. Beautifully understated, the true storyteller in him brought to light.

You are indeed fortunate to be able to see him on stage. Alas, I cannot travel to the UK ... but have a hope that he may find himself in a play in New York, Boston, or Chicago. That I would save my pennies for!

Thank you for the information about "The Rising". I shall begin my research on this event. Following Colin has led me to more reading and exposed me to more world events. And, I do love sharing comments about all these things. I have been widowed for many years now. It is difficult to find someone who wants to exchange ideas and observations of a more serious nature. Certainly, it has not been my fortune to find anyone here.

My best to you, Sunny

If you would be so kind to continue our conversation, I will start a thread in the Colin Morgan board. :) Sorry for the delay in response. My schedule is hectic. I wish I had all the time in the world to discuss this actor. (Also, happy that you found someone to converse with about dear Colin. It's a great thing to feel passionate about something/someone and he definitely deserves it.)

Also, I think a public discussion of him would be good. It would be positive for others to know that he is appreciated universally and not just by teens (a very common mistake that we must definitely rectify). Also, it would show that he is the thinking person's choice of actor. It can be nothing but good. Plus it will give others the chance to join in. And I for one had been longing to look for discussions with others with a similar intent.

Perhaps the only film of his that I haven't seen in its entirety is Island. It's not as well-known as Parked, it seems. Speaking of Parked, I love that it is slowly being released in other countries as well - looking over at its Facebook page, it seems as if it was recently released in Japan and has gained a lot of new fans. (It even seems to have changed people lives as well, especially those who have had history with drugs - it has reached/touched a lot of people, crossing international borders and language barriers).

Have you ordered "The Tempest" then? I'm sure you will love it a lot. He acted so well in it and the critics love it.

As for going to the UK, I hope you would make it one day. The atmosphere in London is fantastic, especially the West End. Fantastic actors are on stage all the time. I think it's what makes British/Irish actors unique. They're very well rounded.

I am waiting with bated breath for the announcement on the choice for lead in "The Rising". Colin is well-loved in the UK and Ireland but is totally not a celebrity so isn't as famous as other actors (he's so normal that he still uses the Tube). It's very rare to find new info on him. But his fans are among the best detectives in the world. And if there's news that he'll be somewhere, one of the local Colin fans would usually scope it out (usually a film set/theatre).

I would be happy to continue on the Colin board. And appreciate much of what you have said on the subject. I will have to be circumspect, however, as much of what I write about Colin has to do with his specific ability with a particular scene or character ... all of which can be considered "spoilers"... (for instance, the glint of blue in the tear-filled eye). I know it has been some time since these films have been available, and most of his fans have seen them. But now and again there are new people who become aware of him.

For myself, I don't mind spoilers because I am not so engaged in "plot" as "performance". Performance is what makes him so memorable. Performance is why I return to him time and again. Also, please let me know when you find out about "The Rising". I have begun reading on the subject. Do you know whether he is being considered for Patrick Pearse or John Conolly? Either way, another death for Colin ... he does this with such compassion, it stays with one forever.

Anyway, continuing our conversation(s) is something I don't want to miss. So, my new Colin friend, I will meet you on the Colin board. My best to you, Suntse

Thanks very much! I look forward to an in-depth discussion about him. Perhaps you're right and spoilers should be on the new thread. I will add it later on.

But you're right about performance. What he does is truly more than acting, but more about the honest form of 'art'. If a person was a moving piece of art, he'd be it.

As for "The Rising", he was being considered as "Sean MacDiaramada" who was the supposed mastermind (so main role) - they also did polls on Facebook and twitter, with majority wanting Colin to get the role. I had a chance to speak with one of people in charge of marketing and he was the one who suggested it to the producers. I think he'd be perfect for it since he looks like the perfect 'face' of an Irish revolution of that magnitude. I think he'd be great for that sort of role, a very serious one that requires charisma which he has in spades. I can't wait to find out more about it. More info about the casting will be out this month.

Looking forward to it!

Hi there, I know these posts were written some 7 years ago, but unfortunately I have only just found them and absolutely love them. Mainly because I agree totally of what you and also Suntse have discussed to date. I just adore Colin Morgan. I am 70 years old and only discovered him early this year (2021) when my grandson introduced me to Merlin. I was drawn in to his amazing ability immediately and have watched Merlin numerous times. However once discovered I have watched everything he has played on TV and Movies to date.. Just purchased Quirke too. I have also watched all his iterviews that have been available. I agree with what you both have said regarding his uniqe ability.

I reside in Australia, so unfortunately have not had the opportunity to enjoy his Theatre activities. I am hoping to make a trip to Europe and Ireland next year and HOPING Colin will be performing somewhere.

I am curious as to what you refer to as COLIN MORGAN BOARD - I would just love to correspond with you on anything to do with Colin Morgan. I certainly would like any news as to where he is going to be next year. I understand that he may be in the process of filming ' Genuine Fakes' which was put on hold I believe due to Covid.

Thank you both for some delightful and entertaining comments... same mind, just not as good at putting it on paper.

Oops! Did you have a laugh at my blunder?? Checking my facts, I find that DDL is British born ... not Irish ... as I am sure you knew already. apologies.

No, no, you're right. He may be born in London but he became a citizen of Ireland in 1993. He has a dual-citizenship for UK and Ireland so he could claim both. Anyway, Ireland and UK seem to always be united in many things related to the arts, despite being different countries. Don't even get me started with Northern Ireland. They're of the UK but in Ireland the island. Do they call themselves Irish or British? Or are they just citizens of UK but of Irish descent? LOL.

Hi Suntse, I didn't know that you could get an all-region dvd player. I shall certainly check out Amazon here in Australia. I actually purchased the full set of Merlin only to find when it arrived it was Region 1 for the USA and here in Australia we are Region 4, so had to re purchase again. Fortunately we do have Netflix which is currently also showing Merlin. I have just purchased Quirke from You Tube here in Australia and about to watch it. I have seen Parked and thought it was a great movie. I very much admire and respect Colin Morgan and his ability to act and create unique characters in any of his movies, series etc. After listening to many of his interviews, it does help to understand when he is using his Northern Irish brogue. I have not seen Colin on stage yet as I am located in Australia, however I am hoping to get to Europe and Ireland next year, so hoping Colin will be doing theatre somewhere in the region. Keep up the good works on your posts - very enjoyable.
