unusual question

I skimmed the whole board for this question, but didn't see it asked anywhere else.

This question contains a spoiler, so don't read the rest of this if you haven't seen the movie.

When Maggie is in the ice cream place talking to her old acquaintance from high school (I think it was), she suddenly excuses herself to go to the bathroom, where she discovers she's not pregnant after all. What I wonder is: what made her randomly decide to go check? Did she just want to get away from this annoying person and her kid? Did the talk about children remind her about her possible pregnancy, and it made her go check? My wife tells me you can't feel your period starting, so this is why I'm having confusion.

I really enjoyed the movie overall, but I felt it had some parts that felt more like "movie moments" than "real life moments," and didn't ring true for me. And this was one of them.

the way something suddenly seemed to dawn on her before she excused herself to go to the restroom made me think she must have felt her menses starting.
your wife is mostly right. you usually can't feel it coming down. but once in a blue moon, you feel the faintest of a tickle, especially at the start, when it's heaviest. and it might feel a bit wet. at least, that's my experience.

I think every women is different because I can DEFINITELY tell when I start mine and that's what I took away from that scene.

She knew she was about to get her period. I always can feel it. I thought this rang true because she kind of stopped paying attention all of a sudden like she was surprised and then went to the bathroom. Has happened plenty of times to me lol.

Thanks everybody for the responses. It still seems like a "too big of a coincidence" moment that it just happened to have happened at that moment. The movie has a few of those, but I still really enjoyed it overall.

So if you don't mind my asking, to those who can feel it starting, what is the feeling or sensation? Is it a trickle down there or do you feel the wetness, or is it something more internal. Also, can you feel it stopping as well, or is it so light by then that it's harder to detect?

This is interesting to me. Sorry.

That was a little snippy. Every woman apparently experiences it differently. That's no need to presume she doesn't know anything about hers. She obviously does, but can't answer my question because she doesn't experience it that way.

I figured from the moment I made that second post on this thread that the IMDb probably wasn't the ideal place to ask that other question, but we were kinda already on the subject, and this forum is anonymous (I don't know you who are, you don't know who I am, so it cuts down on any potential embarrassment), so I figured what the hell. I understand how it could cause weirdness, though.

I didn't mean to make this into a big thing. Thank you to those who answered my question as it related to the movie.

Fun fact, I suffer from HEAVY and irregular periods, and sometimes I'm just stood there like 'oh *beep* and it is like I'm unable to stop wetting myself. It is not a trickle, it is a dam bursting.

I'm a man and I'm totally surprised to learn here that she stopped being pregnant in that scene in the movie. I assumed she was pregnant till the end of the movie. Why are you guys even so sure that she had her period in that scene?

reply

She buys a tampon in the restroom.
