They're already driving me crazy

Bunch of morons, and fakes.

I just came on here to say that! I do not believe for a second that these people are this stupid.

reply

You watch them acting stupid, and then watch them using a knife, and their cover is blown.

I'm generally the most forgiving person on this board in regards to the "personalities" on this show, but man that was a tough watch. the young black guy screaming, the heavyset gay guy, Jetta, oh brother....

reply

At least they got rid of the fat guy. Hopefully that crazy woman is gone next. I thought for sure she would go first.

Since the cat is out of the bag with this show I'm 100% sure all these "contestants" are picked from simular pools of people for other reality shows.

These people contact websites that specialize in casting people for shows. They act as a go between with the producers.

reply

Now I'm not so sure.

Have you never watched this show before? Not to say there are not people who have no clue about cooking. But the personalities get more bizarre every season. This group is not quite as bad as the ones on Worst Bakers in America though. Being from a family of cooks/bakers, we do get a huge laugh watching them.

reply

But this time, they've taken it to a whole new level. And yes, I do believe they're worse than the bakers.

reply

Well they have to do something to change it up. And, well...they're already the worst.

reply

Totally took it to a whole new level, this sh*t is ridiculous! I also agree that this lot is worse than the bakers. This batch seem like parodies of stereotypes, it's pretty awful.

reply

In the first few seasons, it was much easier to believe these people were real and were nominated by friends and family members, but after that, it became obvious that the show was being stocked with fame wannabes whose lack of cooking skills seemed staged.

Also, I love that Anne does the marker thing to keep the contestants from laying their index fingers along the spines of their knives, but I've noticed that both Tyler and Rachael allow their recruits to continue to do so and never seem to correct them. Which tells me that Anne may seem meaner, but she's a better teacher and has to be tough to get her message across.

I don't understand Anne's obsession with the finger placement. She is absolutely the "bad cop".

reply

It's not an obsession; it's about what gives the user the best control of the blade. Anne is trying to teach proper technique; Tyler and Rachael don't seem all that interested in doing so.

And back in the Good Eats days, Alton Brown did a knife show and emphasized the correct grip.

But they're not professional chefs. Hell, they couldn't even be called chefs. They're cooks, like me, only not as good.

What they need more, is to be taught about the use of ingredients. I don't have professional knife skills, and Anne would probably be screaming at me, but I make good food. 

Actually knowing the proper use of a knife prevents one from injuring themselves. And don't use "Mr. I cut myself again". Technique can be just as important as the food. It's like saying not knowing how to control the burner, which leads to poorly cooked chicken, doesn't matter.

reply

I've been cooking since I was 12 so it comes so easily for me.
I have to remember that just because I can cook doesn't mean everyone can.
And, yes, there are people who really are this clueless about cooking.
I know some people who can't boil water.
I do get frustrated a little watching them get frazzled.
The people on this show are like a train wreck you can't look away from.
I do believe that cooking is an innate thing for some, like me. But, by no means, do I still know everything about cooking or know how to make any dish out there.
I'm finally achieving the art of homemade bread.
This show is a guilty pleasure for me.
These people are crazy but I never miss a
season or episode.
Hey, you gotta have something.

reply

But I like to watch the background in the scenes. Watch the knife skills of some of the cooks that don't realize they're on screen. Day and night difference.

Jetta kind of gets on my nerves.
But, the pixie looking woman, Maria, runs frantically around like a mad woman. It makes me dizzy. She has no focus. She yells and talks too fast and gets stressed.
She needs to stick to one dish and stop recreating it ever 60 seconds.
She's all over the place and that wastes time.
