Great idea, teach the kid to never accept 'no' from a woman

That sheepdog-haired kid annoyed the crap out of me. It's understandable that a young kid would hound his crush, but a guy going into high school should be able to understand a firm "no, I'm not interested in you." Instead the kid is coddled by the adults in his life and told never to give up on love. Barf.

That whole last scene at the graduation made me heave. I was on the fence about the movie but that was so contrived and full of saccharine.

I liked the movie but didn't like that part, either. Why would he even talk about love and crushes and soulmates at an 8th grade graduation? He was Saludatorian. I think he would be smart enough to know not to.

Thank you! I dearly loved the movie, especially the whole twist with Hannah. However, the kid and his crush was the biggest letdown and mood killer. Maybe it's because I have a 16-year-old son and a 13-year-old son and neither of them are that dramatic and stupid. My youngest is in all the honors classes, etc., and even though there is always some kind of silly middle school drama, never in a bazillion years would you hear a kid at his school talk that way! ugh They could've done without that entire part.

Yes, if the guy truly loves the girl he will fight for her and never give up. This should continue, in the most public way possible, even after she has rejected him.

Persistence pays of in the end.

Yep. Jessica was clearly uncomfortable with their one on one conversations and was mortified when he expressed his love for her in front of a handful of students, but when he went all out in front of hundreds at a graduation ceremony, she suddenly thought it was funny/sweet. Um, okay. I love this movie, but I always skip through the graduation part. It doesn't exist to me.

Isn't that like a crucial part in the story though cuz it leads to Cal's speech to win his wife back...again. It seemed a bit stupid but I think the girl seeing how pathetic her attempts to land Cal were is what led to her treating Robbie a little bit nicer afterwards.

reply

He was harassing her. He even told her he masturbates to her and isn't ashamed of it. I guess it's meant to be funny, but in real life, that kid would be seen as disturbed. I really love this movie, but the whole story with Robbie brings it down a notch.

that child was a disgusting person

Scarlet butler,

There will be many rapes blamed on this movie because it taught children everywhere that no means yes.

Thank you for your public service announcement.

Lives, and a few hymen, might be saved thanks to your due diligence.

And then she rewards his bad behavior in the end.

Did you read the Cracked article about the 5 ways modern men are trained to hate women?

This storyline completely fits the pattern.

reply

True.
