shareYes, I thought the same myself, especially since it clearly didn't have any sort of protective cover. But let's face it. There were plenty of other things in this movie where you had to suspend disbelief.🐭
shareA piece of electronic like a mobile phone isn't destroyed by water the minute it gets submerged. A phone will stop but it depends on build quality, how dirty the water is and minerals in it. Still most phones will survive a dive in the water, just dry it off after in and outside (corrosion is the real evil)

And sound will work in water just at a lower "volume" water is much denser then air so sounds 'waves' don't go as fast in water as in air.
