Things I Didnt Understand

Why did the so called “borrowers” refer to their race as “borrowers?” Borrowers is the description of what they did to live, not as an accurate name for their “kind” If they called big people, beans or beings or what have you what was their specific name for themselves? It doesn’t make sense that they would consider us so much different from themselves as they were all in all just people too. Human people, just tinier was all.

Seems to me they wouldn’t have had such a hard time of getting what they needed if they put time & effort into learning who could be approached or trusted & when. I’m sure there are people who would freak, but then calm down & be ready to help them. Heck, I’m sure many of us would’ve been delighted in learning little people were living in the house. Only thing I would be paranoid of is maybe walking around undressed or taking showers afraid that the little fokers were around, but ok.

The girl was rather cheeky but every time the boy answered her she kept gasping! When he told her he was sick & needed a operation I’m surprised that she knew what an “operation” was. As I don’t think maybe her people had medical centers, I don’t know but I thought that was strange. Why would the cat try to kill her at first? Cats live among us humans in our world. It would’ve naturally have known she wasn’t no mouse but have recognized her as being a person but only smaller so why the aggression on its part? If we all shrank to Arrietty’s size tomorrow, would our pets attack? The mother was a real winner, kept carrying on even when it was clear that the boy saved her daughter & her. No reason to carry on like that & I didn’t care for it that her & the father were satisfied when they learned that he was “sickly”

Otherwise I thought it was an enjoyable movie but on some fronts it left me wanting.
