How many horses? - Possible spoilers

I was surprised that this film was not much better than it turned out to be, considering the IMDB rating and all of the award nominations that it received.

From very early on, it was apparent that Joey was played by multiple horses. The one that the father buys in the market is very different to the one jumping around in his yard soon after. It took me a few moments to realise that it was meant to be the same horse.

When the horse goes to war, we are soon treated to a scene where loose horses are leaping over a battery of German machine gunners. This was so obviously computer generated, that it reminded me of the special effects from old black and white and silent films.

It was fairly easy to spot the parts that Richard Curtis wrote, they had some genuine humour.

Jeremy Irvine frequently reminded me of Nicholos Hoult and I believe Nick would have played the role better.

The ending was very theatrical and really displayed the stage play roots.

The beginning of the film was very good, but it lost ground quite quickly. Many of the early interesting characters were not fleshed out, so it never achieved it's potential.
