Attractive Looking Black Spies?

Don't get me wrong.. This show looks so corny, it would fail even if they were White.. The couple thing isn't going to work.. It's not like it's Remington Steele and the couple is playing normal people being detectives.. These are CIA agents with super skill sets ala Mr and Mrs Smith.. with more romance? ughh..

Then they get these 2 good looking black actors (who will act white) to lead it.. which is clearly an attempt to bring in a different audience that NBC wasn't getting during their prime time lineup.

How does someone act like a race?

And why are so many getting caught up in this? Shouldn't you be happy that minorities are leading a show where their race is completely irrelevant?

"Where am I? Purgatory!"
"Worse. You're in Texas."

Well- I hate to break it to you- but those days of 70's Black soul and 70's White disco are over. It's more of a "blurring" of the lines now. Besides, no Black actor (for the most part) can really act White- they're still Black and that just, comes through. Especially with these two-- they're middle of the line Black actors. Not like extreme California White-Black folks.
We don't want to see Black exploitation either. We want to see characters, rather Black or White, be themselves, but bring in a little bit of the other cultures too. It's like seeing White characters who use some slang Blacks use, but not in the derogatory, demeaning way. In a way that's acceptable, flattering, and universal-- ya know?

To watch a Black man without Soul is like watching Ben Affleck...

These people are CIA agents. They can't act 'ghetto' (I noticed when black ppl accuse other black people of acting white, they usually mean they don't act uncouth, and they're intelligent, well-spoken, etc).

I am glad they're not playing black stereotypes/caricatures (e.g. soul brotha). The fact that the actors are European blacks also helps with their believability as 'worldly', intelligent people. American blacks are generally not worldly, nor do they usually come across as cultured, which the characters are supposed to be.

reply

Not all black people act "ghetto." I'm black and all my life other people accuse me of acting "white" just because I use proper English.

i know right?

i dont get all the race comments and threads either. who cares about their race. the show is either good or its not, thats not even an issue.

but since they ARE black and are spies and the show is so similar to Alias, maybe we'll find out that Dixon is the uncle to one of em. :P

The OP's an idiot. Reason and logic and pointing out his glaring racist 'overtones' and the fact that there was already a show like this called Hart to Hart will do nothing to save he/she/it from the abyss of stupidity. To try is just an exercise in futility. Just enjoy the show and just let morons like this who think that "race" defines anything about individuals live in complete and utter ignorance until the end of time. Alone.

Maybe you should watch a exploitation flick to satisfy your shucking and jiving wishes.

How does a person "act white"? You do realise that black people are capable of speaking proper English, right? >>>

And there are many white people who are not capable.

reply

Black people "acting white", you say. Ridiculous. Again, an indication that SOME people cannot accept seeing black people on television, unless they are providing the comic relief, speaking at a pace with which no human ear can keep up and just generally acting like Eddie Murphy in 48 hours. Or let's put them in a superior position of responsibility, but have them moody and aggressive, bellowing at their subordinates, demanding that they "turn in their gun and their badge" because they are "off the case". Is that more "black" for you? I don't know, what's the world coming to when two black people appear on television and don't conform to the stereotypes that have been laid out for them.

Just uppity, aren't they?

by - AQJones on Tue Oct 5 2010 19:55:38...Now if they could just get some people that are overweight, don't have perfect teeth, and perfect hair, that would be a watershed moment in television history. Just my two cents.

They have that all over television. Its called reality t.v.
Personally, I don't turn on the t.v. looking for "average" to entertain me. I want my explosions huge, my gunfights riddled with massive amounts of bullets and my spies to look like Boris, Gugu, Angelina, Brad, Pierce Brosnan, Maggie Q, and even Jenny Garner. That's entertaining to me.
