Any other awesome movies like this one ?

Great fan of David Fincher here.

Can you suggest some other movies that are as great as The girl with the dragon tattoo? I especially like the whole mystery-detective-murders-technology thing in this movie, on top of the always great Fincher style (kinda dark scenery, light in the background etc.)..

Thanks

Have you considered watching the Swedish versions of all 3 books? One is dubbed and the other 2 are subtitled I believe. They all follow the books very closely. I saw the first one which made me read all 3 books then the other 2 movies came out for rent.

Zodiac is another Fincher film that is similar with the extensive detective work.

Shutter Island might be worth a try as well for the mystery aspect.

I second Shutter Island.

The first movie that comes up in my mind after watching this one is Insomnia (2002): http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0278504/

(also, like here, there's the Swedish version: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119375/)

Definitely Zodiac. If you liked TGWTDT, then you're going to love Fincher's Zodiac.

Don't bother with the Swedish version of Dragon Tatto - There's none of that dark scenery/light in the background craftsmanship going on, just cliched TV movie stuff.

You might also enjoy The Hunt / Jagten. A surpebly directed and acted thriller about a man who is accused of something he didn't do and how the local community react.

The Ghost Writer by Roman Polanski

Well, it is not a movie but both the first two seasons of True Detective from HBO have numerous similarities to TGWTDT. Fairly detailed mysteries investigated by detectives who are good at what they do but have personal issues to deal with. However, not much in the way of technology. A number of scenes with interesting lighting.

The series is done with each season standing alone and no relation to the other (different casts, different stories, different location, etc.) The first season is much more highly regarded than the second. However, the second season is still pretty decent.

If it is possible to compare a ten hour television show to a two and a half hour movie then I would say that is one of the closer matches. The two just have a similar feel for me.

I'd also recommend a TV show rather than a movie at this point. Try "The Bridge" (I believe it's on FX in the States). It has a lot of the dark and ominous aspects TGWTDT has. It also has a lot of crossover with a different culture (in this case Mexican, so very well done). It has a strong female protagonist who has certain emotional "abnormalities" (see it and you'll understand). There is a built in mystery that acts as an arc to sort of propel the overall story line. There is also one male protagonist who struggles with all the $#!+ going on around him to try to get answers to a specific crime.

It's just television, get over it! - David Letterman
