How did Lisbeth get access to police archives

I've just watched the movie and wonder if I remember the scenes after meeting with Mikael and accepting the job the right way.

She drives off on the motorbike and gets access to a lot of police archives and talks to police officers. How is she authorized for that or why would police give her access and information. "It interests me" is not enough of an explanation for anyone, least of all to a police man.

I remember seing her "investigator card", so I suppose that gave her access. How does that work then? I am not aware of any investigative private force that is allowed access to police work. Plus she is also a hacker and doesn't have a clean history. Nobody like that would pass through a police background check. So eitherI missed something here or the story took some weird liberties about gathering information. Would like explanation.

I think we either have to assume she got access one way or another through Milton Security where she worked (it was a fairly large company... maybe they had an in with the police) or she forged it somehow being as good a hacker as she is (or had it forged).

I don't know what the rules are for investigative journalist if they want to review closed or cold case (if that was what she was supposed to appear as). I have seen some documentaries where private investigators have been given access to closed case files or for cases under appeal (in the US).

I also don't believe she had ever been caught hacking so wasn't known to any authorities as a hacker. It's also a long time since I saw the movie and even longer since I read the book so I could be wrong but that's how I remember it.

Thanks for the info! It's pretty unclear after all. Maybe in Sweden security companies can get access to case files, they definitely don't have it here (in Germany).

As for her background check, I didn't mean the hacking. I meant that she's a warden of the state and under supervision and was known for violent behaviour in the past. I don't know if there were other incidents too, but didn't she basically try killing her father? Not the first person to get access to case files, I'd say.
