Have you seen the original? The 2nd and third ones were sub par to the first so honestly, I wouldn't get too excited for the sequel.

The reason the second two swedish films were sub par was because they were rushed made for tv movies (also the books they were based on were quite a bit more weak than dragon tattoo), however I don't think those movies mean that an american sequel would be bad by default. If they were to bring Fincher and Rooney back they'd probably do something alot different and improve not only on the swedish films but even the books, just like Dragon Tattoo (2011) did.

However, if they really are rebooting the series, replacing the cast, and basing it on Spider's Web I wouldn't be too excited either.

I believe I've read that Zaillian has a completed script for The Girl Who Played with Fire, and that it does indeed deviate from the novel. Based on the Fincher adaptation, I imagine it does so favorably; Zaillian's an amazing screenwriter, and he knows what to keep, what to elevate, and what to cut. Reading the second novel, there's a very compelling story in there that becomes heavily sidetracked by new character subplots (*cough* Paolo *cough*) and Blomkvist's philandering. Tighten it up and you could have something really moving with a surprisingly satisfying climax.

I couldn't agree more!!! My main complaint with the second two books in the trilogy is the inclusion of all of these one dimensional flat as *beep* boring ass characters who take air time away from Mikael and Lisbeth, but just as Zaillon took Dragon Tattoo and turned it into something wonderful I'd love to see what he did with Played with Fire. I literally wanna punch sony in the balls for ditching all of that and hiring steven knight the writer of some *beep* ass Bradly Cooper movie I'd rather scratch my eyes out and having him adapt some *beep* ass book (spider's web) sidelined even more-so by perfunctory characters no one cares about.
