I love Robin Wright, but

For Mikael to choose her over Lisbeth? Thst was not a good choice.
Sure hope the next "Girl" isn't too far away, David!

reply

It maybe was the conservative choice... and maybe he saw Lisbeth as an affair, which had run its course.

reply

He didn't really choose. That affair has been going on long before Lisabeth, and was going to continue regardless of other relationships. But, only as lovers, not ever as monogamous partners.

Mikael never had the opportunity to explain that to Lisabeth. She knew only that he was with another woman, that the other woman was socially normal appearing, and she assumed she was being cast aside.

Had Lisabeth spoken to Mikael, she may have made the same choice, but she would have never understood. That's sort of the tragedy for them, they simply failed to communicate. It is, however, important to Lisabeth's maturation to an independent woman throughout the books

During Lisbeth's report on Mikael she says he has a long standing sexual relationship with his co-editor of the magazine. It wrecked his marriage but not hers. She even knew how often he performed cunnalingus on her! She was well aware of what their relationship was before she was ever involved with him.

reply

Yes. I forgot about that. Thanks.
