I can't stand these movies anymore I seen so many of them lately. Surprisingly made by three pros. But they have lost it. Hollywood isn't even Hollywood a movie isn't a movie. It's a dead craft. Just like the arts. Just remember the great masterpieces that were made. People now are putting out pretentious sheeet.
In complete accordance with your assessment. IT TRULY IS PATHETIC was has become of cinema. The foreign market can create some good works, but in the US, forget it. Simplistic screenplays, blotchy editing, crude narratives. And oh those wonderful sound-bite reviews that audiences lap up. Think of it this way. Whereas in prior eras, people would sometimes think and muse on the movie they had just watched, todays moviegoer will leave the movie theatre, pull out the ol' smart phone, and virtually forget about what they've just seen. Movies are awful. Just like television. The sub-literate Suits ruined both mediums.
I thought his performance was pretty good especially considering the complexities of his character. I rated the film a 6/10 so I didn't love it but you can't fault his performance.
Dead craft? Movie's are "sheet"? Screw these blanket statements - based on what I've seen so far, 2014 wasn't a bad year for film at all. And even if it was, why single out a quiet, character driven number like The Humbling? Sure, it's a very mediocre piece, but displays none of the bad traits commonly plaguing modern cinema. And Pacino is the one who holds things together here - albeit barely - and is the best thing about this otherwise largely forgettable picture.
There have definitely been worse years than 2014 and I like The Humbling a bit more than most it seems. To me it's absurd that this has a 5.7 rating - that's like a full point too low from what I'd give it...........and Pacino is very much on form here. I think he saves the picture really (even though the middle of it is a sloppy mess) and I think he's every bit as good here as he is in Danny Collins which had a far better reception.
In some ways (not all) I actually prefer the messiness of The Humbling to that more obviously commercial and more easily palatable Danny Collins.
