Not entertaining

As usual this kind of movie already has it's fan club but I'm not one of them.
This comedy/horror film was just boring. It needed more comedy and less flashbacks. Or maybe more variety of flashback scenes since it's the exact same one over and over. Then where was the supposed horror aspect? It's missing too.
Someone said the script was fantastic. Wrong. This film fails on too many levels but most of all it's just not entertaining enough to recommend.

You say the script is bad, yet list no reasons why. Some of the best dialog in any movie, indie or otherwise all year. I feel sorry for any cinema fan that this film is lost on. This isn't to say that you're not entitled to your opinion, you certainly are, I just have a feeling your "film" existence is much more miserable than mine.

to be honest i loved this film and would recommend it highly, considering films of 2011 have been mostly poor this is right up there for film of the year for me.

reply

Wow. That's a wonderfully broad statement. You've seen all the movies released in 2011, then?

I agree. Not entertaining. It was boring, predictable, derivative. I'm sure all the praise heaped on it on this board is from those involved in the production. I thought it was terrible and a total waste of my time. Nothing about it worked. The horror didn't work, the comedy didn't work... it wasn't even bad enough to be good. It was just blandly amateurish. I thought Kevin Corrigan did well in this movie and Ariel Gade was a delight to watch but all in all it wasn't enough to save an awful script and poor directing and editing. The only value it had to me was to introduce me to skills of Ms. Gade who definitely has a future in movies. I just hope she gets better roles.

well I'm not with the production and I liked it... alot! I will say it wasn't what I was expecting going into it. I'll also agree with you I wouldn't consider it horror. Not everything with blood or murder is a horror flick contrary to what some think. I would guess that little slip would fall on the marketing dept though. Bad move on their part I think because there is an audience for this film but probably not those who watch things like Saw or NOES Reminds me of what happened with "Red State" it was billed as horror and a lot of us horror fans were excited for a horror flick by Kevin Smith but when it came out it really wasn't horror, and a lot of us were disappointed in it. This one though I had no expectations going in because I hadn't heard of it. A friend posted on FB about it and it sounded fun so checked it out. And yup, liked it. To me it's a thriller or maybe a dark drama, I don't even like when films like this use "comedy" Yes it has funny lines but to me a comedy is something thats funny beginning to end, like Porkeys or Animal House, but maybe I'm too picky.

I thought everyone did a good job acting, especially the little girl. Barry Bostwick really put me in mind of Leslie Nielsen in the way he delivered his lines. I thought it was well written with good character development too because in the beginning I didn't care much for Ken but then I started to. I guess we all can't like the same movies, wouldn't hollywood love it if we did, every movie could be a blockbuster!

Red State wasn't a typical horror flick, but it would be pretty *beep* horrifying to be captured by a group of religious freaks.

reply

lol, yeah those who disagree with you MUST be with production! *rolls eyes*

Never worked on any movie let alone this one and I thought it was fantastic.

"I'm sure all the praise heaped on it on this board is from those involved in the production."

You can pretty well tell a person's level of intelligence by this statement. Any time I see someone say this, I assume they are braindead. This is one of the dumbest things anyone can say on this message board.

People like you really need to pull your heads out of your asses, and realize that maybe it's your taste in movies that suck, and not the rest of the world's.

What you say is very silly. The director's most important job is getting great performances from their actors, and you seem to agree that this job was accomplished. The only thing "poor" here is your understanding in filmmaking, which makes your analytical review attempt blandly amateurish, boring, predictable and derivative.

reply

Maybe you should get a sense of humor and ability to care about other people. Then this movie wouldn't bore you.

I liked this in the end. No, wouldn't call it a horror and the comedy was subtle, but it was more subversive than derivative. I certainly felt a weird tension watching this.
