What is the point of the boy in the apartment with the bad guy?

Really enjoyed this movie. Didn't understand the point of the boy in the apt with the bad guy!

Any thoughts?

My guess is that Jax is gay and Donny was some street boy he picked up and kept on drugs in order to keep around. I don't see any other reason why Donny would stay. There was one scene about Jax having a fiance and his accomplice (the pick-pocket guy) said something like, "You...get married??!!"
