Spectacularly bad... with plot holes

To mesh a combination of gritty drama and romantic comedy, you need some really strong writing and a great director. That wasn't the case here, so we end up with comedy moment that are just awkward, and plot holes that would be "cute" in a standard comedy but here end up being cringe-worthy due to the dramatic, gritty feel.

There are problems throughout the movie but the ending is particularly problematic. So, this dude has committed credit card fraud several times and has fled the cops, who know his identity. His fiancé has made him swear he would stop stealing but how exactly does she expect him to make a living ?

The police is after this guy, but he wants to raise a family with this girl who insists he makes an honest living. Something's gonna give and sooner or later, he has to go to jail first and go clean.

At the end of The Good, the Bad & the Ugly when he rides off into the sunset... where is he going? There aren't any restaurants & hotels in the desert. Probably no laundromats either. Lame ending!

On a serious note, I think you took the movie way too dramatic & gritty. From the beginning it's very playful, and the soundtrack should cue us that this is no "Goodfellas". Granted, Madsen did play a very menacing character and I liked that. It was just enough to keep things tense. But I would never call this a gritty drama. The tagline should also tip us to the filmmaker's intent: "Love is not a crime."

You are exaggerating and there are holes in your own thinking.

He says the engagement ring was a good deal on future employee benefit ... so, Carl has hired him. Needless to say, having a trained pickpocket is quite useful for a jewelry store. So, there is no problem with a job.

The cops are no longer interested in him, as on paper Jax is the bad guy, and the last thing they want is his confession, so they would let it be.

Doubtful he would even be arrested but if he was, seriously do you think a DA is going to waste his time on this case? The cop just had a hard on for him because of the badge.
