Running up the ridge and taking the high ground position

Does anybody else think Tilman and his crew running up that ridge and taking position on the high ground was not a smart move? That would be the first place serial 2 would look for more taliban ambushers, on the high ground. Not to mention making the serials go through that canyon would be an ambushers wet dream.

I think a change of position was necessary if they were supposedly engaging Taliban fighters. Staying put during an ambush is almost always the wrong answer.

They needed to assess what was going on because they heard explosions.
They didn't get cover once they saw it was friendlies because they didn't expect to take fire from their own buddies.
