why is she crying poverty?

In her film nowhere does she mention the 200 million dollars her jewelry
business does annualy...she is acting like poverty is knocking at her door..
that is because I think she is very stingy..I watched this film and wondered why
people are laughing at her comedy since it is based on filthy language and
comedy of insult ...calling her only daughter a stupid f------ c--- for not accepting Playboy's offer to pose nude made me shudder and I had to shut it off.
I think she shoud retire and just do her jewelry business and leave comedy alone.

reply

Why did you see this movie?

reply

I shut it off...don't tell me you think she is funny?

reply

I do happen to think that she is funny and I think the film did a fantastic job of showing how self-loathing she is. But I'm just interested in why you would watch it if you dislike her so much.

reply

Because I find her stinginess fascinating...

reply

I don't understand how she appears stingy. She explained that she has expensive taste and therefore has to continue working to pay for her extravagances.

reply

You see I notice alot of things about her...how when she had her own AM show
and when she did Sally Marr on Broadway she still did club dates for extra money
and she used to sell her first book after the show for 10.00 each...her stinginess has made her do unheard of things..(like appear as herself in the story about Edgar's suicide) she is totally without any class and will do anything for a buck and her calling the first lady Blackie O is beneath any form of humor...

reply

I get it... You don't like her, but like to know a lot about her. I don't think you understand the meaning of the word stingy. She's always worked comedy clubs. Jay Leno still does... Does that make him stingy? What comedian doesn't sell merchandise after their show? She explained in the movie how re-enacting Edgar's suicide with Melissa was cathartic. I doubt she made a huge chunk o'change as it played on Lifetime! But go ahead and TiVo Fashion Police so you can continue not liking her.

reply

It's mainly her attitude I don't like...she states she is not mainly a club performer she is a comedy actress. So that would put her in the category of Lucille Ball or Carol Burnett ...which is rediculous...these two ladies are
totally different than her...her comedy is to say the filthiest things she can to mainly a male gay audience. And of course they will cheer anything out of the norm.

reply

Wow... I got no reply for that!

reply

She explains in the documentary how she has expensive tastes, as well as how she supports those who work for her by paying for their children's educations, making sure they get have good vacations, etc.

I think this is probably why she has to constantly work to maintain this lifestyle and to continue her support of those around her. Personally, I think it's admirable that she looks after so many people.

Maturity. The very staple of the IMDb message boards.

reply

and she doesn't care whom she steps on..she is solely responsible for actress Sean Young's decline in Hollywood by putting Miss Young on her show in a cat costume to beg for the role of Catwoman in a Batman film...of course everyone
thought she had mental problems and no one would hire her for anything important after that...Miss Rivers destroyed Sean's career for ratings..shame on her

reply

I thought Sean Young was responsible for destroying Sean Young's career when Sean Young dressed herself up in the Cat suit. You are not very bright. You didn't see the documentary, which answers your question about her finances in the first 10 or so minutes, so why are you so interested?

reply

Your the idiot...she talked Sean Young into doing it knowing
it would end her career..like I said all she cared about were ratings
I was there...

reply

Uh from what I've read about her, Sean Young destroyed her own career by having clashes with directors, harassing people, outbursts and just straight up strange behavior. Oh also can't forget that she went on set of Batman Returns dressed up as Catwoman, trying to convince Burton and Keaton to give her the role.

So yeah I wouldn't blame Joan Rivers for this and I don't see anything anywhere stating that she put Sean Young up to it. Even if that were true, anyone in their right mind would have not done it and I doubt she would have told her to crash the set during production as well.

Because sponges never have bad days.

@thistledown-2 Your the idiot...

Wow... I got no reply for that!

Hmmm ? I do, "Go away!!!" You're (at best) a borderline homophobe. Sorry that you're not as successful as Joan Rivers but she has worked hard for it.

-- Besides, she dies mention that she was not good with money throughout the years and did not invest it correctly - you'd be shocked to know how many of the actors and celebrities you DO LIKE found themselves in the same boat (people like Barry Manilow and Billy Joel).

I think you responded to the wrong person. This is what mph1-3 said before they posted "Wow... I got no reply for that!"

Or maybe I just got it wrong? You're probably addressing thistledown-2 through mph1-3, yes? Would've been nicer if you responded to the right post, though, so the right person would get the e-mail notification.

I thought that she wanted to work more. Not necessarily for the money but because she's something of a workaholic and doesn't want to slow down.

Money isn't the only thing that motivates.

At one point she says "“If I had invested wisely, I wouldn’t be doing this”

Apparently, her greedy and reckless investments, along with betrayal by an unscrupulous business partner, resulted in catastrophic debt, $37 million, which to her credit she managed to pay off.

Still, you can't take her words at face value. Most of what she says and does suggests that she's a workaholic, a neurotic who has trouble being alone or accepting herself unless she's getting constant "love" and adulation from the public. She dreams of marrying a billionnaire, or so she says, while realizing, at some level, that absolutely nothing will make her happy for long.

That's why I smiled wryly at her comment that she feels "chosen" every time she steps into her limo.

Who is she foolin'? Certainly not herself.
