Stupid Junk Yard Scene

Like the Federales cops, or the junk yard people, aren't going to comb through Driver's car from top to bottom after they bust him. Then they show Mel cutting into the wreck's trunk for another big bag of loot.

What are they doing? Why do they come here?
Some kind of instinct, memory, what they used to do.

OT: the amount of old vw bugs stacked in that jukyard was HUGE.
Can anyone confirm if that place is in Veracruz - one of the filming locations?

reply

Not I, never been there.

Well, if the corrupt main guy saw the money in the backseat, figured the guys were chased off mid-getaway and was trying to cover up that there was money I could get if he wanted to quickly and quitely dump off the car without really checking it.

But then that begs the question, since they seemingly WERE pursued right away, still being in their robbery outfits and with cash still in the backseat, when did they have time to put any in the trunk (and seal the trunk?)

Wouldn't the cops search the whole car completely as soon as they arrested him? Come on!

True Self is righteous. It's a conspiracy to portray Man as a savage that needs taming and policing.

Combing through the car would seem to be the obvious thing, but remember what happened when the policia grabbed Driver, his dead partner, and the bags. One of the officers began to look through the car when the one in charge told him to stop so they can leave. The first one said something like it is "policy" to look through the car, but he was told to forget policy and they left in a hurry. This was presumably because they wanted to leave the scene quickly with the large amount of money they had just grabbed.

So here we have an abandoned car near the border, and the tow truck guys come and get it, possibly called by the police. Perhaps the trunk was damaged in the jump and they couldn't pop it open so they don't even mess with it; that's why Mel has to take a grinder to it and why the money is still there. Why it was in the trunk and not the backseat with the rest of the money we don't know, but we have a pretty good explanantion as to why it's still there.
