WTF

How is it that any half decent show on American Television gets canned and yet they renew absolute dreck.
Can you Americans get your act together and recognise good original concepts and keep them on air for at least 2 seasons.
As Father Patrick said Feek,Feek, Feek.

That's what I'm saying! This show was genius, and everything that came out of Dan Stark's mouth was gold!

I have tasted the FLESH OF FALLEN ANGELS!

reply

Awesome show pity it was cancelled, just goes to show hoe feckin stupid americans are :)

reply

It has nothing to do with the American viewing public, but the network. Fox has a proven history of canceling excellent shows that don't meet their expectations fast enough. Plenty of canceled shows reach cult status.

Leave the stupid anti-country speech at the door when you post, please. All it shows is your ignorance.

reply

Griffith, what "great" shows are coming out of your wonderful country? Thanks for watching American TV. now piss off.

reply

I am american dipso

reply

Stupid, small minded people, those of us with with a half-way decent thought got exactly what you were saying. It's those same stupid "Americans" that continue perpetuate the state of this once great nation and its current decline and fall from grace. The loudest voice in this country come from moronic idiots such as those who chose to attack by calling out their own pathetic lives. Keep fighting the "good" fight!

:)

reply

The TV programs you call great wouldn't hold a candle to some we had 20 years ago and they continued for years and years. Evn farther backm Westerns were on for 20 years and each show was good and was well written by a team than stayed with the shows. Their are improvements in picture quality, etc...but we had less to watch, so we did other things like go to work, visit family or sick friends. We had family picnics and played games at night. TV and movies weren;t the be all and end all it is now. It wasn't as greedy and corrupt as it is now. I grew up with people and had family myself that worked in the studios back then. They had good solid jobs and it gave a lot of people work. I am disgusted with all the greed and corruption going on these days, but if young people don't take notice and take the blinders off it will only get worse. Too selfish thinking of them selfves only and not the greater good for everyone, We need Unions again; it was the way to a better life once and can be agaim, done the right way.

Off my soapbox now..I won't answer any posts that attack me, This is my opnion and you can have yours, just rememeber, I have lived much longer and remember when this country was great.

reply

"just rememeber, I have lived much longer"

Which makes you a bitter old hag.

Wow, lots of hate comeing from here. Lets face it, Americans have a problem here, we do one of 3 things with a good TV show here in the states. 1 we bag that sonofabeech before we ever get to season 3 and most of the time its before season 1 is over, or we ride it into the ground. X-files, perfect example, show was on for 9 years, and it was only good for I don't know maybe 5? Simpsons has been on for 21 years, and it peaked in season 4 (sad news for american TV The Simpsons is still funnier that just about any show that currently being aired). and The 3rd is we stick it on cable/dish channel. USA, and FX have line ups that are great, and also a lot of crap, but they don't have the budget of an NBC, CBS, ABC or FOX. With the money spent on NETWORK TV we should be getting 18 hours of at least good programming a day with out having to pay DirecTV or Time Warner. Oh, sorry for the long ramblings...I have toget back to watching "Big Bang Theory"

reply

I'm still waiting for your list of great non American TV shows.....or you could just call me more names.

Sadly, this show shouldn't have been on FOX to begin with. It took a couple episodes to get a good feel for it and people are way impatient nowadays. It was also too unique and thus, since it wasn't a procedural, it got tossed to Fridays to die. This was a show that was definitely better suited for cable, primarily USA. The only thing I do commend FOX for is airing all 20 episodes even when it was getting 0.7 or 0.8 ratings on Fridays. They could've easily just yanked it after a few episodes and aired a rerun of House, Bones or Glee but they stuck to airing the full season.

Staying clear of the childish insults between like minded fans of this great show, I'm taking a shot at the very people I have ALWAYS blamed for good shows going south, THE TV EXECUTIVES.

I don't understand how these half wits can green light a great show only to kill it a short time later yet, as someone else pointed out, plenty of dreck keeps on filling out TV screens. People running the networks are, in my humble opinion based on years of TV viewing, brainless piles of raw sewage that couldn't figure out how a fork works if shown a dozen instructional videos and sat in a classroom for a month with endless coaching. They SUCK! We're buried in 'reality' garbage while great shows like 'The Good Guys' are tossed on the scrap heap and what's saddest of all is, these same miserable airheads pander to (again, this is the saddest thing) the majority of viewers who seem to care more about what some skank does while drunk than a clever story line that maybe, just maybe there really is an audience for.

To the "Executives": we may not be the majority, but face it you sludgepiles, with 300 different channels out there, you will ALWAYS have competition. Try to appeal to a wider range of viewer, not just (or primarilly) people who have the same vacant skulls as you.

This was long, but I mean every word of it and then some.

reply

That's exactly right. It took me a couple of episodes to get into it, but I love(d) it! You are dead on about people's patience these days. Remember how bad the first season of Seinfeld was? But once the characters got developed, it was pure genius.

reply

You forgot Spaced

reply

Well, Luther (UK), Wallander (SW), The Killing (DK), comes to mind. That being said, the last ten years have been the best in television ever, mostly because of the US.

reply

It was funny. Yup, it is too bad. I wish They have kept it going. Bradley Whitford and Colin Hanks were phenom in this show.

reply

Plenty of us in the United States loved and enjoyed the comic genius that was The Good Guys. Trust me, we miss it terribly, too and are equally frustrated with network tv yanking the best of the bunch only to replace it with mindless drivel.

reply

All of your haters on America, you are the ones who are stupid. First, the show was an american creation with american production, actors, writing and every other aspect. So if you liked the show, you like this American creation, pretty good, eh?

Now, I will make a generalization that mainstream america is a group of mindless drones with sheet for taste but I can say that because I am one of the group. But it is not for you to say, LOL.

While garbage shows like Rosanne and tool time guy, Urkel, Fresh Prince have populated the american landscape there have been MANY irreverent, smart, clever and witty shows that have caught on. Sometimes I am surprised there are enough Americans to make some of these shows a success.

I do not think how stupid americans are is why some of these shows are cancelled. I think there is a large luck factor in it. It is more about the number of shows, the number of entertainment choices, the marketing and opportunity each one gets swirled in with many, many other factors. This is why a great show like this gets canned. If you want to blame anything, blame the networks.

reply

people will use any excuse to bitch about America

ironically, Dan Stark would have happily put those ungrateful bastards on the next bus down to Mexico, or up to Mexico North (also known as Canada.)

the only stupid Americans involved with this show are those decided to cancel it.

reply

My thoughts exactly! Thank You jimmyderzko!!! And by the way, not a bad list other poster.

reply

The Network's goals are not to make shows with good plots or characters they just want to make shows that people will watch so they can sell advertising. 20 million people will watch American Idol each week and just 20 people watch the Good Guys and similar shows. I absolutley hate that the shows I like get cancelled so quickly but they just don't generate enough revenue for their networks.

I wish networks like USA, TNT and others would pick up more shows that were quickly cast off the large networks. The Good Guys may be one of Fox's least viewed programs but its viewership numbers would easily make it the highest rated show on many smaller networks.

reply

Maybe that's what needs to be done. Make a network for castoff television shows. The Good Guys being one of the best that has been out in a LONG time on Fox. I mean it would probably take a few bucks (HAH!) but it would be cool to keep shows like The Good Guys and Flash Forward(still could have done better with that show if it wasn't for the bad timing of the release) and my own personal favorite, Miami Medical. sad really

In the immortal words of Socrates....I DRANK WHAT???!!!

DARN YOU!!! DARN YOU ALL TO HECK!!!!

reply

Don't forget The Defenders. That one was also brilliant and got canned.
I will never get it why. But probably it's just a matter of taste and IQ.

I must agree with you that if a show is not a hit with the advertisers by its third viewing it will be canceled.
But this is not just done by the main networks; Recently FX channel canceled a great show called "TERRIERS", a thinking man's cop show where the storyline proceeded each week.
Its America - the land of instant gratification. Where the advertisers dollar counts and counts big.
Hell these networks or stations hardly advertise their own shows coming out, but fear not, the comic book story crap like "the Simpson's" et al. SHALL CONTINUE to be aired.

reply

If this was a different time I'd say somebody put a hit out on these reality television producers...then the stars....first up...SNOOKI...I am SOOOOO *beep* tired of people talking about this dumb b*tch yeah I know hypocritical right now but she really neds to just go the funk away

In the immortal words of Socrates....I DRANK WHAT???!!!

reply

Wait--who let foreigners watch our TV? Isn't enough that we gave you toothpaste and tomatoes? TV is ours. Go read a book or something.

reply

Agree.

reply

If it wasn`t for the selling of so many shows you couldn`t afford to make them on the first place. The same as with movies. So thank foreigners that watch your shows!

You forgot Shameless (UK) and Skins (UK), shows much better in the original version.
