Just read about all the shows I like that have just been cancelled and it reminded me about The Good Guys. If people didn't like the show, they did not give it a chance. I say Colin Hanks on a talk show befor TGG was on and I didn't particularly care for him so thought I wouldn't like the show, but loved it and loved Colin. And Starks' ringtone.....Slow Ride, what a hoot.
Out of all the shows cancelled in the last decade, this probably makes me the saddest.
It was such a stupid, silly, funny show and it never failed to put a smile on my face. Here we are two years later and I still think about this show every couple weeks.
Watched the first couple of episodes again. This was a fun show. Bradley Whitford was awesome to say the least. Hanks was ok, he got the job done I guess. He kind of fits the role but maybe someone else would have been better. Whitford carried it in any case.
This show would have been in season 4 right now if it was put on The USA Network where it belongs. Easy. Not sure the financial workings on the shows on USA vs the Major networks but they all do well with this kind of theme, but none would survive on the big networks. Never should have tried this on one of the Big 4 since they need much heavier numbers.
I imagine success on the majors is much bigger financially but it was not a good gamble. This show would have killed on USA
Here's my bump. I'm about to watch Bradley Whitford on The Talk. Made me think about The Good Guys so came to IMDB. And here on May 13th 2012, I am the OP. Forgot all about it. But I still feel the same about the show. I guess I should give up on it ever coming back, huh? Funny it is almost 4 years to the day of my original post. Hi to everyone else who loved this show!
Hey, how come you didn't dig lil Hanks? Just curious, I have no opinion of the dude (tho I did enjoy his work on Dexter) PS- The best thing about "Old Dogs" may have been Method Man.
I'm watching the show these days and I don't believe this show could get cancelled. I mean it's awesome, comedy + action doesn't get better than this. I still can't get over the "Thunderstruck" scene in the pilot. Just plain awesome.

Something I'm surprised people don't bring up about it more is the writing. It was genius. The plots were pretty intricately woven, if you ask me. Funny, yes... unique, yes... great music, sure... but writing and production team did an outstanding job of tying the whole thing up into a very neat package.
Like most people, I first saw Bradley Whitford in Revenge of the Nerds II and then a few years later in Billy Madison, and he's always played these smarmy over-the-top characters superbly. Dan Stark is a ntural extension of that. I first saw Colin Hanks in Orange County and immediately took a liking to him. He's a lot like his dad, and that's a good thing.
The fact this show was yanked out from under us is a crime to both their careers. It was brilliant.
I just started watching this show on netflix, and I cannot believe it ran only for one season. I'm on episode seven and it is a fabulous show, far better than other shows like The Glades (I can't believe THAT show lasted so many seasons). The young Hanks character works so well with Witford. I wasn't all that surprised that the critics didn't like the show, ever met a critic? They are generally 'full of themselves' (as am I, but for gawd's sake I'M A WRITER, we are allowed to be full of ourselves). This show WORKED. Everything about it work, from the rhythm, the action, the interaction between the two main characters and the supporting cast. The story lines were 'typical' for the genre. But what was surprising to me, was that when Witford's character turns on his 'charm', I not only thought of that song "I'm too sexy for..." I WANTED HIM, the way a woman wants a guy, down and dirty. :) (I'm in my 60s but so what? There's something about an experienced, gifted actor playing the buffoon who likes the 'ladies' that just gets to me. Why aren't more men like that? sigh. Oh well, there's a few more episodes I get to enjoy on netflix, then I guess I'll have to take that character and put him into a book of mine. I do so hate to just have all that sexy 'charm' disappear into tv land.
Life is a journey not a destination. Fear nothing.
They showed this on Sky 1 for a while but then they moved it to about 2am and then it disappeared from the schedule completely, annoying it was cancelled but even more that they didnt show the whole of the series
I can see why a show like this wouldn't last past one season. At least on broadcast television. It didn't have a "hook" to dig into the audience. The gimmick it did have I loved to death. Most of the shows that I'm currently watching have something that definitely grabs hold of me (24, Once Upon a Time, Agents of SHIELD). I really love The Good Guys and new I would from the first episode. I think it would have survived better as a USA/TNT/TBS/whatever cable show.
Don't forget: It's just a story being told Nothing is "overrated". Your opinion is just outnumbered
Been watching it multiple times on Netflix. I need a DVD of this series with commentary. Easily one of the most brilliant funny shows I've watched in a while. So sad it didn't last. If I had to pick 3 shows I'd want to continue on past their cancellation I'd pick:
1. The Good Guys 2. Justice (the lawyer CSI type show) 3. Eli Stone
The show was the right blend of humor and action. So many great memorable moments in this show. And a kick ass sound track. Been going through all the songs featured and making a playlist based on it.

Yes! Whoever was in charge of matching the music to the action on-screen (sorry, I can't be arsed to look it up now) did one HECKUVA job!
After you compile your playlist, d'ya think you could come back and share it on/in this thread? ______________________________________ "Leave the gun. Take the cannoli."
