They never say what exactly happen to the father? and I also feel that the sons were old enough to know better. I do not think stuff like that can happen to day (I suppose it does, but with the way kids are??) the kids would have killed her. I mean, we hear about kids killing parents all the time. In that type of situation, I wonder why it never cross the kids mind.

In the Cold Case Files episode about this story, "Mommy's Rules," the police asked the sons why they went along with their mother's violence and replied, "You didn't know our mother."

I wondered the same thing myself, why in real life the children never killed the mother. They could have shot her with her own gun while she was asleep, slipped something in her food, etc. etc. In my opinion, it would have been self-defense, although I know the law would not agree with me, as the law says that the threat to you has to be imminent to qualify as self-defense. By killing Theresa, the kids would have saved themselves from further abuse and would have saved their own lives. It's a shame that they did not kill the evil mother.

Killing their mother would have been deem self -defense since they had proof that they tried to get help ,and proof that they were afraid of her. She killed their father and their older sister. They reach out to the school for help and were rejected. A good lawyer would have been able to get them off a murder rap
