The Cristeros War? Why?

Am I to understand the attempt by Mexico's government to secularize Mexico was as harmful to the people of Mexico as, say, the Mexican-American war, which only robbed Mexico of what is now the Southwest United States? This entire concept is a shameless attempt to distract Americans from the role the United States has played historically in oppressing and brutalizing Mexico. I wouldn't doubt if there's some hokey right wing Christian agenda at play here, too. i.e., "fighting for religious freedom" (just the message the NRA nut jobs in America need right now). People worry about the liberal agenda in Hollywood? Here's a prime example of a right wing agenda that's been creeping its way into Hollywood since 9/11, where the overall message is, "KILL, KILL, KILL!!!". You tell me what's worse, that or a small 2 hour dose of white guilt. Oppression of religion is obviously wrong, and this is a good story. But the timing of this is awfully suspicious. Right now Americans need a history lesson in the United States' harassment of Mexico, not a "Passion of the Christ", Latino edition.

Robsac,

This film is actually part of the 2012 Mexican Presidential election by the right wing ruling party. Their campaign also included a visit from the Pope and all sorts of cheap shots like this POS Movie.

The "Cristero" war started when Cristeros started killing teachers because their classes were going against catholic doctrine; then it turned into a war to keep the absurd privileges that the clergy had at the time.

There was a "fuero" for the clergy that prevented them from any legal prosecution. President Calles fought them and the war ended in a truce from both sides.

Bitter much?

I am amazed at the number of people who had "deathbed conversions", this is the first time I heard about Calles'.

So you think that prohibiting religious acts in public and prohibiting religious education in public schools are "commie pig" laws?

Won't encourage you much. I'm just going to block you as soon as you read my reply.

Enjoy!

I have just seen the film (proceeded by endless political commercials) and if the purpose were to somehow benefit PAN in the current Mexican Presidential Election the film would clearly have been made in Spanish, not in English.

Mexicans are, with reason, skeptical of films regarding their history that are made in English. PAN knows that, at least.

So I don't think that is related to the film at all.

It was made in English in an attempt (though I doubt it will be successful) to appeal to a wide international audience.

"And take that filthy dog out of here!"

reply

Films made in english and with international celebrities make locals believe it HAS to be true.

Films made in spanish regarding these subjects look too much like political propaganda to be credible.

And because of that "truce" now we get to "argument" with "pro-life" retards and such... Why oh why didn't Calles finish the job while he could?

Now get to have our own Mexican rednecks down here >.<

reply

FACT: The Cristeros never killed any teachers. Prove me wrong.

reply

Oh no! Ignacio feito just blocked me!!! I'm devastated!!!

hahaha

Well well, you are quite a character aren't you Juan Jose?

reply

That's the kind of right wing trash that's promoting this piece of propaganda that tries to pass as a movie.

Thanks for pointing out Juan Jose's "article" on El Yunque's website.

Robsac, I agree with you and feel the same way. When I saw that Andy Garcia, Mr. Right-wing Cuban, was starring in this, I knew it would not be a fair, unbiased film, which is a shame, being that their are not too many films dealing with accurate Mexico history.

reply

Porfavor people. Stop with the hate. Seriously. Chill out!

reply

American foreign policy was never as harmful to Mexico as Mexico's domestic policies.

reply

^ Agreed.

Actually, Mexicans should be eternally grateful that the U.S.A. "stole" all that territory from Mexico (who did the Mexicans steal it from?) so that they could have a place to run to for jobs!

reply

They "stole" it from Spain. Spain stole it from the indian civilizations (maya, aztec etc.), who stole it from some unknown prehistoric tribes, who stole it from some pre-human tribes, who stole it from other mammals, who stole it from the dinosaurs, who stole it from trilobites, who stole it from lifelessness.

NutSac, the P.R.I. government wanted to suspend, forbid, and outright outlaw the Catholic Church in Mexico. The ones doing it were atheists and Communists. This was happening between the years 1926-29 and the Catholic people of Mexico weren't standing for it(praise the Martyrs).

There is no ties to 9/11 about it. This isn't a Mexican version of Passion Of The Christ. But what we are seeing the rise of anti-Catholicism and anti-religion from the White House under the HHS Mandate concerning reproductive rights of women(religious institutions have to provide birth control and exterminating products in their health coverage).

Do not bother to respond to my post; I'm putting you on ignore.

The New York Rangers suck. And Sidney Crosby is a cry baby!

Thank you, TSue. The Catholicism of the Mexican people held them together in this time of crisis. I hope it does the same for us in America when Pres. Obama pushed his healthcare initiative forward. It's satisfying many, and hurting a lot. However, we will fight with our minds and votes, and not with guns and violence. Every decade, history repeats itself.

Really? That's the whole point of this movie?

Uhhh...what?

Right now Americans need a history lesson in the United States' harassment of Mexico, not a "Passion of the Christ", Latino edition.

Hahahaha, you're a treat!

It's not something that's as much a part of recent history or current events as it used to be, but, until not too long ago, wars were fought between nations over boundary lines and territory. No government has an inherent right to exist or rule over any given area, but governments claim this right through conquest and retain it by force. Many years ago, Mexico was defeated by the United States, and now that land belongs to the United States. Get over it.

Mexico didn't always exist, neither did the United States, and neither of them will exist forever.

Actually the film portrayed the US as just looking after their interests in Mexico. Film left out though how the KKK gave 10 thousand US to the Mexican government for the sake of wiping out Catholicism
