For all the Atheists and Haters posters,

Case in point why the attitude towards Christians of this time happened. Why atheists have to promote their non-belief is beyond me. Just wait until they take away your rights.

The freedom to practice Catholicism was taken away from these peoples. You can argue that some of the Church authorities have been corrupt, but a few people in a group don't represent the whole group.

What I like about movies based off a true story is the ending cannot be altered. Other things can be Hollywooded up, but they can't take away the end results.

Yes, this war against Christians really happened. Believe it or not.

The ending and plotline of historically-based movies is regularly altered for the purposes of dramatic storytelling.

Did you know that the cristero movement started when religious bigots assassinated school teachers for providing secular education? Obviously that was not in the movie. Now you know it.

But that does not justify the actions that were taken are the government. You can't condemn a religion because of a few people.

especially considering the war didnt start from the cristeros killing the teachers(atheists trying to revision the war :/ ) atleast not at first; it started when a shoot out happened between catholic men and federal troops, the next day the federals stormed and killed the parishioners including the priest and even purged the city of zacateca(and one other) yeah atheists keep trying to defend the actions of the mexican government at the time which made violations against not just freedom of religion but restricted freedom of speech and they even prohibited private institutions from teaching religious material which in my opinion is still a violation of freedom of speech n religion and took away priests right to vote and trial by jury just because they were simply priests?

Atheists have killed more people in 100 years than all religions put together the last 2000 years.

I'm a Catholic and I didn't like the film. Firstly, it's slow and formulaic. Second, it's not very historically accurate. Finally, it has a very conservative world view.
I'm glad you enjoyed it but anyone who is more objective can see this film is right wing propaganda.

No, this was not a true story. There is no historical evidence that Gorostieta was ever baptized.

The real story is even more gruesome if you ask me. This is a somewhat more generic motive. The tortures they put the real kid through were even worse.
