So why is it only 1 hour tonight?

Does NBC really care that much about The Michael J Fox Show and Sean Saves The World?

They have no problem postponing Parks & Rec whenever they want, but they're apparently very protective about their crappy new sitcoms that should have been cancelled long ago.

It appears that they're showing 2 hour shows on Mondays & Wednesdays and only 1 hour on Thursday this week. Tonight (Thursday) is only four of the remaining eight groups.

Next Monday will be only 1 hour and will be the remaining four of the last eight. That will leave six groups for Wednesday's 2 hour episode.

Looks like Sing-Off is trying to get through this season by doing three shows a week.

However, I wonder when they actually recorded these shows. I bet they must have recorded all of these episodes before the "premier" of Season four. The closed captioning is so perfect and these groups must have had much more rehearsal time than just overnight to get these performances down so great.

Does anyone know?

Thanks for explaining this. I was catching up on last night's show on VOD and was wondering why I didn't see some of the groups like VoicePlay and Element.

I took a tour of the Sony Pictures Studio lot in Culver City in August and there was no mention of that show being filmed there.

I'm sure the show is filmed there because I recognize the backgrounds of the segments and it says so in the end credits.

We were shown a list of TV production schedules and Sing-Off wasn't on the list.

I think in prior seasons, contestants were given a week between episodes to learn the opening number and prepare their own numbers. I can't imagine it's too much less than a week even if they changed the format considerably.

I wonder if it was earlier in the summer or the Fall. If it was during the summer that would make the most sense because two of the groups are college groups and one is a high school group and you couldn't go to college and do the Sing-off. The only time it was done in the past was with USC students who could commute because USC is like 20-30 minutes away from Culver City.

Great that you got to take a tour of Sony Pictures Studio! How was that experience?

I wasn't expecting The Sing Off to return since I heard it was cancelled. So it was a nice surprise to see it in the line up. I do wonder about how much time they're giving the singers to practice given that the show was on at least 3 days this past week. I imagine they didn't have as much time this season to prep in between shows.

The Sony Pictures/Columbia Pictures Studio Tour was kind of awesome but it's like 90% indistinct, transformable soundstages. They might say "here's the place where Ethel Merman did her swimming movies or where Singing in the Rain or Wizard of Oz was shot" but there's absolutely nothing left from those movies. We got to see the sets of Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune and the vehicles from Green Hornet, Talladega Nights and Breaking Bad along with some of the audio recording rooms and the old Columbia Pictures commissaries.

They used to have a lot more permanent sets back when that property was MGM (-1989).

I recognize all the backgrounds from the videos (when they're rehearsing or even the introductory videos) as places from the tour. In the last episode, for example the Filharmonic were sitting on some outdoor tables outside of what I believe was the giftshop near the main street set, and the group 10 was standing outside the New York facade set (some fronts of buildings that could stand in for a Northeastern city with nothing behind it) and two episodes ago, Calle Sol was sitting outside the Columbia Studios historic headquarters (where the studio's 12 best picture Oscars are housed), the Street Corner Rennaisance met Shawn about 50 yards away from the tables where Sean met the Filharmonic and one of the members was talking about how he knew the words was outside the sound-dubbing studio. The basketball court where Sean met the AcoUstiKats might also be on the studio lot too, but I can't remember it offhand.

Sounds like the show is taking full use of these studio lots lol. It's on my list to take a studio tour one day. I like the idea of being close to a set that I've seen in a film.

Looks like you toured a lot of interesting sets. That's what I call an enjoyable day.

You're very lucky.

yep, there's a saying that if you take an ordinary orange and put it in front of a tv camera, it's no longer just an orange but one that was on TV.

The tour might have been cooler if I took it after the Sing-Off and was like "oh, wow, here's the table where the Filharmonic was at" etc.

It was definitely, something I'd been wanting to do forever.
