The judges have a weird relationship with the old groups
They were too intimidated by the greatness of Jerry Lawson to take him out of the competition and even bended the rules of the competition to keep him in (something that was more necessary in season 3 when they had to let Afro-Blue go), then they went in reverse with North Shore which was more versatile and might have made top 5 if the judges didn't take them out of the competition too early.
Street Corner Rennaissance seems more genre-savvy than the other two groups. They knew that they had to be versatile in order to survive so they attacked One Direction and C-Lo head on and the judges appeared to love it but then eliminated them. Maybe they had a similar reaction to North Shore where they just decided that they were limited but they should have voiced that in the feedback in the first two episodes. Instead, like with Jerry Lawson's group, they just sat back in reverence and were probably too intimidated to give them that direction.
