C'mon, Avatar best picture...Really???

I've yet to see this film and from the previews it really does nothing for me nor give me a reason why I should see it. A planet full of blue people and the film wins best picture. I just cannot wrap my head around this. I saw The Hurt Locker and really feel that should have at least beat out Avatar. I wonder if I should even bother watching the Oscars then if this is the way its gonna go. Did it win because of how much money it has made? Or because Cammeron directed it? Is it like "Oh he did Titanic so we'll just give him the award?"

While I loved Avatar I agree with you that The Hurt Locker was far better than the other four nominated films and Bigalow also should of been given Best Director as well instead of Cameron.

How can you judge a movie you have not seen? It seems pretty juvenile to determine the quality of an entire movie based on a 2 minute trailer.

BTW, the Hurt Locker was ok, not great. Basterds and Avatar were better IMO

That's all you had to say. This post is irrelevant.

First and foremost, watch the film before deciding to criticize it. It won best picture because while it may seem to you like a movie just about "blue people" it is about so much more. James Cameron and his team put so much thought and detail into this movie so that you could truly be transported into another world - it took them something like 4 years to make. The visual effects are breathtaking, the characters are charming, the story beautiful. In my opinion, I don't see why it WOULDN'T win best picture.

Obviously people don't read everything. Did I criticize this film? No. I just merely asked how can a film like this win best picture. It doesn't seem like the type of film that should win. Especially against the likes of The Hurt Locker or Inglourious Basterds. And yes I saw them.
