Tom Hanks' joke about Meryl Streep's bed partner

I think Hanks was saying that Meryl Streep upgraded her bed partner from Alec Baldwin (It's Complicated) to Stanley Tucci (Julie and Julia). It seemed to be a joke on Baldwin, but Tucci reacted as if he got slammed.

Anyone else -- who did Hanks mean ?

I just think you reversed it. But it's Hollywood; they can take it.

Well - that's why I posted my note. I wasn't sure who Hanks meant to jest. It seems it would be funnier to poke fun at Alec Baldwin (comedic actor) than Tucci.

BTW, thanks for your PM. =)

I missed it, but it sounds plausible.

I took it the way you took it too. He said Baldwin first, then Tucci, and THEN said it was an upgrade, so he clearly meant she upgraded to Tucci. I'm not sure if Tucci misunderstood or was reacting as though that was a ridiculous thing to say. But yeah.

Oh Christ I've left the iron on!

It was a back-handed compliment to Alec Baldwin and a playful jab at Tucci.

It was like saying, "She upgraded her bed partner from Alec Baldwin to Stanley Tucci! Yeah Right!"
