This movie is a sad romance similar to those 2 other sad romance movies in the fact that all movies involved a person who got 'saved' from a miserable kind of life by a partner and then loses the partner who saved them. And then the surviving partner lives on to have a normal good life with at least 1 kid in the end.
Except that Em was neurotic and Dexter was better off without her.
shareNot to mention Jim Sturgess seemed to be channeling a young Leonardo DiCaprio at the beginning of the film... the floppy hair, womanizing charisma, how everything seemed to go his way without really trying (that is, until life caught up with him). The character of Dexter during the first few years shown in the movie really reminded me of Jack Dawson.
