I guess I found the movie clever but overly smug, maybe even anti-American (and I'm a die hard liberal). But if you're going to be clever, you need to get the facts right. We don't have "Esso" gasoline in the U.S. The brand is Exxon in the U.S. (and Esso elsewhere)!

I think the short was a brilliant portrayal of man's tendency to pursue material riches at the peril of the planet and himself. The only inaccuracy I could find is that Ronald has killed millions through heart disease, not an MP-9 machince gun.

We used to have Esso in the US - besides that drip-head logo, there was also an Esso tiger mascot (their catchphrase: "Put a tiger in your tank!"

I thought the use of the "Esso" trademark instead of "Exxon" was to justify the filmmakers' desire to use the older logo. I didn't know that it was still "Esso" in other countries.

In Australia, we have never had Esso or Exxon.
shareAccording to wikipedia, the company once known as Eastern States Standard Oil (the initials of which inspired the Esso brand name), now known as ExxonMobil, operated fuel stations in Australia under the Esso name until 1990, when they were acquired by Mobil. I believe they kept the Mobile name after the 1999 merger of Exxon and Mobil.
According to a trade website, 7-11 bought all Mobile stations in 2010, and, I assume, rebranded them 7-11.
The article mentions there being 295 Mobil stations in Australia at that time, so I'm guessing they weren't widespread or successful there.
