American health: a lost cause

This series just keeps blowing my mind about how ignorant Americans are about food and nutrition. Kids who can't identify basic vegetables! Kids who can't use knives and forks! Adults who don't see anything wrong with fat-laden, sugar-laden, salt-laden processed foods (and feeding kids PIZZA for BREAKFAST)! Each new episode shocks and stuns.

I tell you what, America, you're a superpower now, but you won't be for much longer. You're all going to keel over from diabetes and heart disease, and the fish-eating, rice-eating, vegetable-eating Chinese are going to take over the world. If you keep eating junk food like that and don't even bother to educate yourselves and your children about fresh food and exercise, you deserve whatever you get.

I wasn't surprised about the lack of knowledge on nutrition (ie "it's bad to eat pizza for breakfast") but the kids not being able to identify a POTATO was actually chilling and tragic at the same time. Genuine kudos to the teacher who made a project to solve that one (through this, she actually did more "good" than Jamie did the whole show, IMO!).

My elderly aunt was watching this too and simply couldn't believe ANYONE wouldn't know what a tomato or cauliflower was in a country that eats them.

Really sad.
