Interesting topic and movie

I found this to be a interesting movie. Flawed and inaccurate, but interesting anyway. I keep seeing comparisons to the Iraq War from other posts. These were two different types of conflicts with different agendas. Whole books could be written on those. While casualty comparisons at 4,000 are close to the same, the majority of casualties in the Filipino War were caused not by the enemy combatants, but by disease. Not many people realize that the Brits were fighting a comparable war in South Africa at the time and it lasted just as long 1899-1902. Scorched earth, concentration camps, eventual changing of tactics by the Brits and Americans with there own hit and run attacks were too much for the Boers and Filipinos. With the same result in the end. Complete conquest of South Africa and the Philippines. This was not a bad movie. I thought the actors who played the Lt. and Rafael were good in there roles. While I like Chris Cooper, I feel his role here was wasted and too over the top. If you have some time to watch this you wont feel cheated, just not that much wiser. If you want to know more about the War read a book. There a couple out there that are well written and detailed. As for a good period piece movie I would suggest Tracker. While not much in the way of action. It is much more interesting and well written than this.
