Sayles is a master, and understand the budgetary constraints, but while all individual scenes play well the overall pace of the movie would have played better with an independent editorial eye.
shareI have not seen the film yet so I cannot comment on it specifically. But Sayles has always had a unique and rather off beat vision. His pacing and timing are not run of the mill Hollywood to be sure. It is not everyone's cup of tea, I'll admit. But by and large, I like it. Although at times it takes me a bit to get into the flow, or lack of it.
