well portrayed and numbing

This film is very effective at portraying a realistic dilemma of this type. It was a bit long and drawn out, but that may have been necessary to accurately show the woman's ambiguous feelings. It was based on a book someone wrote about her actual experience I'd expect and the film showed that well. To persons who haven't been through that type of life it becomes very monotonous hearing all the tedious and boring Jesus-talk and all the dreary scriptural prattle that such people do. Their congregation didn't seem like the hostile, fanatical condemning type religious people, but they live in such a limited unrealistic and boring culture. I'd imagine that the stultifying tedium or their lifestyle was too suffocating to the author. She wanted to belong but just couldn't. There is often no recovery from that.
