Maybe I missed this but...

Why did the Apocalypse happen again? Like the whole movie is about stopping nuclear bombs and they do that. But then Judgement Day happens which makes everything in the movie null and void.

Not really. The Rapture happened at that end of the movie and according to some Christian interpretations, this is the beginning of the Time of Sorrows or the Great Tribulation. This is a seven year period of war and persecutions of those who have converted afterward. This film presents one view of the End Times that is common among Christians but there are other views as well.

The main doctrinal quibble that I have with this film is the timing of the Rapture, the taking of the Christians up to heaven without their physical death. This film takes the view that it will occur at the start of the Tribulation and the church will be spared this. My view is that it will happen somewhat later, at either the mid-point or some time past this.

I concede that I am in the minority on this, however.

Like, I know what the Rapture is. I wasn't disputing what it is and what it represents. My question is, did the characters in the movie have any affect on whether or not the Rapture took place?

reply

Misunderstood the first question: sorry. As to your second question, whether or not the Rapture will occur, is up to God. When it will happen is entirely His timing and the characters in the film have no influence in either when, or if, it takes place. Hope I did better this time.

So I was right. Nothing in the movie mattered. The end of the world happened. The end.

Well, no; not really. According to most Christians, the Rapture is the start of the seven-year period known as the Great Tribulation. At the end of these seven years, Christ will return to earth with His followers, defeat His enemies and then reign on earth for 1000 years. After that, 'The end.'

If you really are interested in this, I'd suggest a visit to Hal Lindsey's website. He explains it in far greater detail than I can here. Even though I don't agree with Lindsey on everything, I still have a lot of respect for him.

Hope this helps. You take care.

Not in the least bit interested. And I'm not trying to say anything about you even though you totally don't get the point. This is a movie website. I'm not interested in talking about God or the ramifications of a Rapture. I'm talking about this movie. And what I watched here was a movie where the characters have no control over the end of the world. And all of their actions are null and void. When the rapture happens in the afternoon, it doesn't really matter what you had for breakfast. Crappy movie. Perpetuates the stigmatism that christain movie makers don't have any idea how to create movies. Thats all I got to say.

Before anyone dismisses this being a "Christian movie", today's Christian movies should be approached with an open mind and evaluated on a one by one basis. Christian movies have come a long way and most are very well written, produced, directed, and acted. The production values are way above low budget. These movies are also attracting a lot of actors who a few years ago many people would not associate with being in Christian movies. Just because an actor is in a Christian moves says nothing about their spirituality and a lot of them could just be actors playing parts. A lot of actors want to be in family friendly movies that they can be comfortable with their families watching. Many actors also want to be in parts that are interesting and meet the standards that i mentioned already since a lot of them take pride in their profession. A lot of Christian movies, of course, have a Christian agenda but are not preachy and place a high priority on being entertaining. They have come a long way.

Well then this movie set them back a lil bit.

I am a believer and a follower of Jesus and I didn't much care for this movie. It was too CIA-type of movie, where you have to pay very close attention to what's going on. I liked the movie "The Moment After" better, it has a similar plot without the Russians and Muslim storyline. Although there is a sequel to "The Moment After" (called "The Moment After II") that picks up where "The Moment After" ended.

I read one person said "Jesus reigns for a 1,000 years on earth" but it's NOT the earth that Jesus reigns over, instead its the New Jerusalem/New Earth because God is going to destroy the earth we live on now. Yes, this should happen 7 years after the Rapture, when Jesus comes again, defeats the Devil and chains him up for a 1,000 years. Satan, the Devil and his fallen angels have caused so much damage on earth that this will be a VICTORY for God/Jesus when Satan is taken down. I'm sorry that you don't care about the prophecy because its very interesting and thrilling.
