Michael London jr missed something important

One thing about the amish that Michael Landon JR , missed that was very important was that the Amish , do not wear weeding rings they thought to be vain and jewelry for that matter.
Why would he make it where kaite's parents where them, that makes me so angry , because also he had Katie, wearing eye make up in the movie as well.
Anyone who knows the ways of the Amish and see this movie , does this make you angry ?

I thought the make up was ridiculous! She wore a lot! I have seen othe rshows about Amish and they did not wear make up.

I was wondering about the refrigerator and the electric lights in their house. And what was with the scene with her in the room with all the posters and playing the boom box?

reply

That was in the "English" house that she worked in.

"I can't sit down. These aren't my pants."

There were several things that bothered me about this movie. The makeup being one of the bigger ones. It doesn't really make me angry, but I'd say just annoyed.

They don't have electricity, but in some Ordnungs they are allowed gas power, such as propane.

I agree with her eye makeup - I know actors have to wear makeup for the cameras and such, but being that she was an Amish girl, they could have made it more natural looking.

There were several inconsistencies with the Amish. For example, I don't think Rebecca would have had the right to overrule her husband ("Samuel, time has come!"). In the book she would not have contradicted him, esp. in front of others.

I also didn't find it believable that the Amish would not have helped the biological mother find Rebecca. Although they try to keep apart from the world, they are usually cooperative when the world asks for their help. This was also handled differently in the book.

I find that Michael Landon Jr. takes wonderful material and waters it down to barely good enough. I don't hate his movies, but I never think they are up to potential. I don't expect replicas of the books, but I would like to see stronger scripts and more research into the times and customs. Sometimes better performances, though in this case I didn't think most actors did too badly, given the material.

I won't even watch any of the Love Comes Softly series of movies done by him. The books are fantastic but the movies are pretty much just using the names of the characters and that's it. The stories are NOTHING like in the books. Incredibly disappointing.

reply

True. I only saw two of them, and was also disappointed. Maybe that's the price of having read the books first, and loving them.

Plus, in the second one Clark seemed kind of creepy, following one of Missie's boyfriends around with his cane and lame leg, preaching at the poor guy all the time. So inconsistent with the book character. I know they have to change things to fit a movie format, but degrading them to this extent? Ugh.

I think I'll see the next one before reading the book, in case I just suffer from a book bias.
